...at least here in the 'States. If I'd lined up a bar gig, I'd be bellowing this one out every set.
-Yes, this is a fair bit behind the curve, and the subject has been done to death, but if anyone missed it the first time (like I did), here she be:
Now now...no criticism of over produced irishesque, nubile young women in evening gowns, muscular bodhran players with pony tails and dago-tees (even though the latest fellows prefer the bald look), and banging on drums with colored water splashing whilst colored lazer light is shone thereupon.
I thought we had a concensus that this theatricality was necessary to maintain the interest of the masses so that our beloved trad can be allowed to prosper without having to pander.
So what is grammatically incorrect about saying "the season it is upon us", if you wish to produce a poetically enhanced notion that the season DEFINITELY is upon us?
Anyway, back to the video. America is a funny country. Funny as in strange. To us over here, anyway. Even more strange than Ireland is to unsuspecting British visitors. Why? , you may ask. Because - since we all speak the same language, you subconsciously expect things...attitudes, behaviour patterns, and so on...to be much the same. But it's a freak out for us to realise that Yanks get uptight about, or laugh about, different things to us. And I'm a Scot so I don't qualify for yer normal stereotype of the anally retentive home counties arse cheeks clenched thegither suburbanite. And yet I still find Yanks wierd...but undeniably wonderful people, so friendly so big hearted.
Thank you for posting the link to this video, tomw. I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the synthesizers and the production.
Zippy, I recommend that you watch the video and then tell us what you think of it.
I like butchering English just to confuse people no matter what dialect of English they are speaking.
Did I miss something? I clicked the link and found a song about Barak O'Bama being Irish...which was fun, but which doesn't seem to be what everyone is discussing.....I wish I was better with computers.....
Oops again - "hilarious" - bejaysus - I'm getting my coat...
AlBrown, I'm not sure what Thistle was on about, but I think that "fun" is what's going on here...
Since the season 'tis upon us...

I wish that they'd lose the gawd-awful synthesizers and production, though.

Re: Since the season 'tis upon us...
I didn't look at the video. I am assuming that it included synthesized americanized irish...
Or does it have scantily clad red-headed young things in green Hooters costumes.

Re: Since the season 'tis upon us...
''the season IS upon us". Is, dude. Not 'tis. 'Tis is a contraction of 'it is' and you wouldn't want to butcher Hiberno-english, would you?

Re: Since the season 'tis upon us...
Now all we need is a song about the Scottish roots of John McCain.

Farr - Oops!, my bad...
Yeah, I though that it was pretty hilarous - it would have been more so with real boxes and pipes and such. IMHO.
