Alex McEwen obituary

Todays 'Guardian' carries a lovely photo and piece by Derek Schofield to this Scottish folk pioneer (singer and guitarist) who died last December at age 73.

It's been suggested (on threads here) that Alex may of been the first to introduce the bouzouki in 1958.

Re: Alex McEwen obituary

No doubt Alex, you are busy right now, convincing all the Angels to swop their Harps for Bouzoukis! ;-)

Re: Alex McEwen obituary

Interesting to think that, amongst all the lefties also folking around in the early '50s', it was actually this aristocrat who first brought folk music to television.

Re: Alex McEwen obituary

Thanks for that, lisaniska. I only knew of Alex as Rory's brother, and from an early LP of theirs. I knew Rory in the late sixties, as he did a lot of work for the English Folk Dance and Song Society when I was also working there. I have just discovered that Rory died in 1982, but can't find much more information.
