Xaphoon-ish whistle?

Xaphoon-ish whistle?

I was wondering if there's anything like the "xaphoon" (pocket sax) (http://www.xaphoon.com) but having the same fingering as a whistle or similar enough.
I wanted to buy one and now that I see the fingering chart I'm disappointed, mainly because you have to use the little finger of your left hand. Why? Why couldn't they have made it like a whistle??

Hmm... I think I've found what I wanted. It's called Chalumeau:

But... It says... [ The range is from c' - d'' ]
Does that mean it has only one octave? Or two?

Re: Xaphoon-ish whistle?

I think the chalumeau has only one octave. The Xaphoon is rather strange in the fingering department, but a little perserverence will do wonders. I find that when an instrument is in my hands, then the fingering for that instrument comes to mind (as long as the initial practice is done). Single reed cylindrical instruments seem to overblow at the 12th (octave plus a half) instead of the octave, which means clarinets have what they call 'the break' with a wierd bunch of notes joining the first octave with the overblown notes. By having the extra fingerholes the Xaphoon seems to be able to do the same thing without a whole lot of keys. It is so groovy sounding though that I think its well worth the effort.

Because it's suppose to be a cheap mini-sax, which utilizes the pinky keys quite often...I would love one myself

But for you, perhaps you'd like one of these (scrole down a little)...

Re: Xaphoon-ish whistle?

It looks a bit like the metal clarinet I started off with in 1965.
