Well, the lack of job is finally catching up with me, and my gorgeous Herb Taylor mandolin had to go on eBay today. No reserve. Feel free to get the bidding started for me
Got it started for ya Pete, although you probably won't be happy if it wins at my price. I'm unemployed right now too. I think my C#/D accordion is going on ebay as well in a few days.
Thanks sb... I'm not too worried about getting a good price out of it. eBay is pretty good at delivering market value for these kinds of things... But it always helps to have a little momentum and interest generated in the auction!
Sympathy... but maybe its time there was a separate buy and sell ( free of course, jeremy!) side of the mustard board, because half of the posts at the moment seem to be instruments for sale....Has to be done. Hard times and all that, but wouldn't it be better for everyone if there was a browse it yourself (whatever!) type of for sale and wanted here?
You know what I mean.
Last time I checked it was round $300,-. My offer stands at $325,- (about all I can spare at the moment). Also, I just found out (to Reverend) that you don't ship to Holland... Which is a pitty.
But still, the offer stands, and I mean every word of it.
Hope that whoever buys it from you will be equally generous (as it is a beautifull instrument)
I think the mandolin is going to probably do fine on eBay. (Thanks all for participating!)
We'll see how it goes. The good news is that I am friends with the luthier, and I can have him build me another one when I get cash again... And it's not a complete loss, because when I play too much mandolin, I notice that it has a negative impact on my banjo playing. So I'm OK concentrating on banjo for a while...
Bummer Rev. Sorry to hear about this. I understand though. I haven't had a full time job since Oct of '07! I had to sell all my bass fishing gear last year and my electric guitar w/ practice amp.
They'll have to bury me with my Martin guitar cuz I ain't sellin' that!
I was curious to see your lightweight spare bridge, Rev. Did it make any difference, as far as you were concerned ? It looks to me like a variation on Red Henry's new mando bridge designs, and most people swear by them and wouldn't put the old adjustable ones back on after trying.
So, how did it sound to you, are you just offering the instrument in the conventional set-up with extras on hand ?
PS Obviously sorry for your situation, it could be tough for a lot of us yet, hope the new Pres can do some good with his programmes of support.

my condolences to you. I would be heartbroken to have to sell my beloved accordion. I hope you get a good price, from someone who really cares.

Re: Sadly selling my mandolin
Well, hope my bid helps a little. It's sad to see musicians having to sell their instruments.
Hope this terrible crisis ends soon

Re: Sadly selling my mandolin
And offcourse, IF I win it, you are welcome to buy it back (same price) anytime. It will be in a good home (no smoke) and will be taken good care off.

Re: Sadly selling my mandolin
Getout and busk. Put up a sign offering it or sale and WHY it's for sale. Might generate more offerings.
So sad to see instruments go for sale. I actually tried to sell some guitars several years ago. Nobody wanted "second-hand" instruments!!!

This is a very sad thread indeed. Hope things will sort themselves out for all on the board that are hit by this.
