Live Music Now -call for trad musicians UK & Ireland
Live Music Now -call for trad musicians UK & Ireland
Live Music Now was established by Yehudi Menuhin in 1977 with the twin aims to make high quality live music and the educational and inspirational experience of music-making as widely accessible as possible and to promote standards of excellence in young musicians and music leaders. LMN Ireland is one of nine independent branches across the UK. LMN provides participatory outreach concerts and workshops in different venues (schools, special schools, nursing homes, hospitals, day centres, prisons, hospices etc.) and also develops special projects (eg. Brian Irvine’s A Marvellous Medicine; Peter Morgan Barnes’ The Vikings &The Impostor; Musical Memories).
What we are looking for?
-Young professional musicians from all music genres especially traditional with a very high standard of musicianship
-Musicians with the ability to offer performances with a varied and suitable choice of music for different Live Music Now audiences
-Musicians with good presentation skills and an ability to establish a rapport with the audience, inviting their participation as appropriate
-Musicians are eligible to remain as members of the Live Music Now scheme until they reach the age of 30. Musicians should therefore ideally be at least 2 years younger than this when they join the scheme. Duos and ensembles should use their average age. Exceptions may be considered for musicians whose performing career is delayed for certain reasons eg. a recent move to the UK or if their training has followed a different path and time-scale to the classical Western tradition
-A commitment to the aims of Live Music Now
-Most Live Music Now performances take place on weekdays during the day-time. Your other commitments should allow you some availability during these times in order to be able to accept Live Music Now work
-Musicians with experience in workshop facilitation or the will to train in workshop facilitation
What we offer?
-Paid performance opportunities (incl. workshop facilitation, special project delivery)
-Training and Mentoring

Re: Live Music Now -call for trad musicians UK & Ireland
Hear hear !
What's wrong with a few grumbly old gits providing live music ?
Personally I was very happy playing some music in a mental hospital under a scheme, until it lost its funding.
Who is funding this organisation ?
Re: Live Music Now -call for trad musicians UK & Ireland
Most funding for music-related projects these days is only available to children and young people. I discovered this last year when I trawled through a load of trusts looking for some financial help with attending a singing course.
There were several that gave money for music-related endeavours, but I was excluded from applying to nearly all of them because of their age criteria. Kind of discouraging.
Re: Live Music Now -call for trad musicians UK & Ireland
Actually I think the main problem here is that the thread title is very misleading. If it's for young musicians only, it should say so in the title. Can it be renamed?

I think the "Young" musicians bit might fall foul of the new ageism legislation.
