Fiddle Forum?

Fiddle Forum?

Does anybody know of a dedicated fiddle forum where approaches and exercises for technique are discussed?

Re: Fiddle Forum?

Dear SG
Merely type "Llig Leachim" into the search box under Discussions and you will find all you need to know! ;)

to be honest, since you live in Ireland and already attend fiddle classes I wouldn't waste my time...attend session in your area & listen to as much live music as you can (you'll learn all you need to know that way), watch....and you won't need to resort to 'exercises' or 'technique'....it's all there in the music.

On the other hand you might want to pick up Matt Crantich's more than decent Irish fiddle tutor book....The Irish Fiddle Book....Custy's has it...or Amazon.uk. Lot's of exercises [sort of] but learned in the context of *playing* tunes, rather than mindless reps of scales or what have you. Tha's the way to go.

This one is brilliant - and very friendly. It's actually called "The Fiddle Forum" so should meet your needs exactly!!

Cryans in Carrick on Shannon every Thursday night is a great place for good music and a bit of craic.

Re: Fiddle Forum?

There used to be a listserv for fiddle. Dunno if it still exists.

Re: Fiddle Forum?

SG - You might want to check out:
http://fiddleworld.ning.com. It's called Fiddle World - A Place for Fiddlers. I just joined but am not yet familiar with all its features. It appears to be for all fiddlers, not just ITM, but I've noticed several discussions about techniques, etc. Just a thought. - Jeremy

Re: Fiddle Forum?

You mention in your bio you take lessons from Mossie Martin? My advice would be to mainly just stick with that. You can't beat that, if it's the same Mossie Martin I'm thinking of. He's a great player!

Re: Fiddle Forum?

With Mossie as a teacher, you can´t go wrong.
He´s one of the best.
