Radio National - The Weekend Planet - ABC - Australia
Hey, I usually have nothing in the way of Irish Trad to contribute to thesession discussions or body of contributions ... but last night I got a phone call some time after 11pm ... "Hurry! Tune into Radio National! There's beautiful Irish Music on the radio". By the time I found it on the radio it was coming to an end. You probably already know about it ... but here is the link:
It is a band called "Dual" who were in Sydney for two performances in the Sydney Opera House. I hope you can receive Australia in your neck of the woods. There are two hours of music ... and I'm listening myself from the archive right now.
This isn't really a discussion ... just letting you know about it!

Well, so I got it a little bit wrong in that Dual were the featured band in the nearly two hour radio program. Its a lovely unexpected listen and I'm really grateful to my friend who was driving home when she heard it on the car radio. It is also encouraging to know there is enough support for Irish/Scottish Trad for the billing at the Opera House, and for ABC to have featured it in a national radio program that is archived ...
I know nothing about the Sydney Festival, Duijera Dubh. Don't know a single name in the staff directory. I'm happy this one happened and I got to hear about it even in the centre of Australia ... yay!
No telling what the future might or might not bring?

Seems to me that since Fergus Linehan became director (He's "Irish Australian" I guess some people would say - I don't, I just say "Australian'), there are more Irish trad performers on the card. He understands what the large number of people in Sydney who like Irish traditional music want, and that there's been a relative lack of it. Put some quality music on at the Opera House and it's a winner every time.

Clare FM has trad music programs on for two hours each night Monday to Friday. They are archived for a week. Plus they have the new kitchen sessions live programs each Sunday.

Sydney has a session on Tuesday nights at a club at Asquith(?) Well attended apparently. Nice venue as well.

Clear, there was the Queally Fanore session two weeks ago, but I think the one after was Custy's?, but I can't see it anywhere on the site. Maybe not yet, they need a little while to upload it to the site I think.
Brilliant isn't it. You learn so much about the local scene there as well from the commentary on the shows.

Good stuff. I hope there is still Irish music on the program if and when Fergus Linehan moves on as Director. Surely there would be. Wouldn't there?

Bren and Dubh ... I am saddened that the session scene in Sydney has such troubles when Sydney has got it all.
