A “heads-up” for receivers of BBC1 – “The Boys and Girl From The County Clare” is being shown on BBC1 this Tuesday coming at 11.55pm – set your video/DVD recorders, and look out for “Ptarmigan”.
This clip shows Paddy Glackin playing the tune with three small boys, but they dubbed my Fiddle playing over the top of his!
............... or was it the other way round?
My mates and I fell in love with this tune, and play it often, but for a long time we couldn't come up with the proper title. Randall Bays had it as "Alistrum"s March". I too watch the video often. I get a lump in me throat every time I watch John Joe say "When you've got the music, you've friends for life. That's why I'm never lonely."
A side bar if I may your Honor. Is there some sort of Irish Film Industry law that requires Colm Meaney be in nearly every Irish comedy made in the last dozen years? Or does it only seem that way?

Aye, but look on the bright side, maybe that means I've still got 15 minutes coming to me ........ & just maybe, it'll help keep the tax man off my back!

By the way, I had the honour of choosing the tune & it seems to have been a popular choice.
Which reminds me, Andy Warhol promised me "15 minutes of fame" but I got less than a minute & most of that time, I'm not even in focus!

Re: The Boys and Girl From The County Clare.
We call it the Humours of Trim, which helps to distinguish it from another Rolling Waves that's also a D jig: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/515

Yes, it's Rolling Waves. Personally, I like that movie very much, even though end is little bit unrealistic with ceili band winners thing.
