I find it a little ironic that, {imo} the music & the playing in the first clip with Marcus Maloney on Banjo, is just so lovely & rock steady with excellent rhythm.
I could play with those guys all night!
While, for me, the music in the second clip doesn't have that same lovely steady rhythm, despite having two rhythm instruments involved!
There must be a message in there somewhere!
I personally find the lack of a good, strong, solid rhythm in this clip ... a little irritating!
I always feel that one of the duties of a really good Banjo player is also to strongly emphasise the rhythm & for me the 2nd player falls a little short, in the rhythm dept.
To me, it sounds a little like he's trying to play the Banjo more like a Fiddle!
actually ptarmigan whilst I admire the driving style that most good banjo players have, it isn't how I'd like to play myself. I prefer the music to sound more fragile.
I love the way many box players capture this feel (which I'm describing very poorly, but have to run off anyway as my lift has arrived : free at last)

Re: Love The Banjo Playing!
Lovely stuff. I can only hope to play half as well as that some day.
Preferred the first clip for some reason. Maybe the second clip scared me too much.

"I liked the bloke in the second clip best"
Sorry Michael - I'm afraid I couldn't bring myself to listen to a banjo player who fraternises with bodhran players.

You could hardly hear the thing, not on the speakers on my laptop anyway.

Re: Love The Banjo Playing!
But you could see it. Surely that's enough.

Re: Love The Banjo Playing!
Lovely, particularly Moloney's Broken Pledge. Bodhrán did muddy it a bit though I thought.

Perhaps it's time he "MOVED ON UP" to the Fiddle!

I liked the rhytm and drive of number 1 but the musicality of number 2.
Number two would benfit by changing to a frosted head.

Darren - yeah, but here there are 53,000 judges and just one or two competitors.
Oh, and the prize for winning isn't all that hot!
