Tenor banjo teacher sought....

Tenor banjo teacher sought....

I am searching for a tenor banjo teacher in west london (come on there must be one or two of you out there!).

Could someone make a recommendation, I am sure my neighbours, and in particular my wife, would be extremely grateful :))

I am aware of the Irish Centre's lessons but was looking for a few one-on-one lessons, I have been playing for a few years now but feel I could do with a few tips from a pro.

Any help appreciated

Nick

Good suggestion, Miles. You could probably contact him via Mick Bailey:

Re: Tenor banjo teacher sought....

Mick O'Connor is one of my favorite banjo players. He's also one of the kindest and coolest people out there playing the Music. I bet he's a wonderful teacher. I met him in Mayo last May. What a great guy!

Re: Tenor banjo teacher sought....

Let's start a thread on Mick O'Connor, then. That man lives and breathes The Music. Don't swear at him by saying ITM - he won't have a clue wot you're on about. (Don't swear at him anyway!) Mick is a lovely person, totally dedicated to The Music, will always be kind to any person who approaches him.

He's like a Brahman, high priest, complete Zen Buddhist, totally immersed in the glory of his craft (except, of course, he's not -- he is, I am told, from my rumour-sources, a devout Catholic who sincerely believes his huge ability is God-given and should not be squandered.) Mick always has been, and always will be, a living musical hero for me. The album he did with Paddy Carty is good but The Tape with Jackie Daly, Mairead Mooney and Frankie Kennedy......................

John Bowe is similar, from what I hear. The Kilkenny Arms has a tuesday night session, but the real business is Sunday night. Then it's John Bowe and Selected Freinds................

Re: Tenor banjo teacher sought....

Nick, I can confirm everything that´s been said about Mick. He is truly quite unique in the Irish music scene. I´ll be seeing him on 19th Sept. so if you haven´t made contact with him by then, e-mail me your details a day or two before and I´ll ask him to contact you.
