With about 38000 views so far, I guess everyone here has seen this at least once. If not, it's a good one for the archives.
What a classic. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=I3oO6I56Guc
Thanks, Dubh - what a great way to start the work week!
Does anyone know what the instrument is that Triona Ni Dhomhnaill is playing? Didn't she also play a Hohner on occasion?
Tom
Dafydd-the instrument in the picture is a Clavinet? I don't really know much about them, but if it is, it must be an earlier one than the D6 and the ones that I used to see around here. It sounds great, anyway. I notice that her wrist position is somewhat unusual; probably a quirk of the instrument--as a teen, I had an old Wurlitzer 140B electric piano. When I got it, the gent that I bought it from warned me not to hammer it like a real acoustic piano, else I'd start breaking things. He was correct; I was constantly replacing broken reeds and tuning the sucker.
Cheers!
Tom
Looks like a D6 to me. It could be an early model.I can't see the volume knob and switches on the left hand side but that could be because of the camera angle.
it was hearing this lot that got me into itm approx 30 years ago, i still think after hours is the best trad recording i have heard, sadly i never got to see them live
Thanks Ramiro! I thought that it might be an early one... or something custom built/modified - clavichord kits used to be pretty cheap here in the states...
dafydd- thanks for the links. I might consider bidding on the ebay one, as I've always wanted one, and know how to fix 'em...
Enough about the tech. HOW does she play that stuff?

Not the bothies, but this is off Mickey Dunne’s tape The Limerick Lasses, I think it was called.
Great tune, lovely setting:

Re: Bothy tube
Dafyyd and Tomw, it's a model "L" the only clavinet with the key colors reversed and that odd shape:

Re: Bothy tube
Thanks, Ramiro, lovely tune, especially the last one.
Steve - same. Well it should have been 30 years for me too, but I was too busy at the time to find it. My loss.

Re: Bothy tube
Duijera Dubh, in that video of Micho Russell you posted, is that Iarla O'Lionaird speaking before he plays? My goodness.

Re: Bothy tube
Yes, it seems so. This is the whole program, I think, and some much later solos by Iarla:
