Thanks for posting this Continuo - you beat me to it! What a programme and wasn't the Tommy Peoples/Dermott Byrne duet something else! TG4 definitely need complimenting on their programming last night for 3 hours of non-stop Irish content. I missed the first part of the documentary on Tory Island at 9.00pm but from what I saw it was very enjoyable and informative. The Francie Mooney documentary that followed was also highly interesting and was a great example of how local communities functioned before the TV age. His sporting prowess (something most of us would be totally unaware of) was awesome in that he played football for 3 county teams (Galway, Donegal & Louth) in 3 different provinces. As I've said before we're fortunate in having one genuinely Irish TV channel amongst all the dross. Long may it continue!
Unfortunately was off the ball and missed the Mooney documentary - hopefully it'll be broadcast again soon.
For me one of the highlights (and most interesting) was the fiddler player from the McNeills - I know that there's a view in Cape Breton that fiddling is becoming too 'Irish' there, and his playing seemed to be an example of this. Though I'm not an expert so maybe I'm reading too much into the playing...
