Does anyone know where I can get instructions or help files for the ABC2 navigator software? It's got me beat! How do I put tunes in a playlist? What does the filer do? Agghh! Now all my tunes are in the trash and I can't get them out. Great software, mind. Good job I speak schoolboy french. Anuller. Tombe de ma Plante. Mayday.
Instructions don't exist, but you can get quite a lot of info by searching on this site.
What does filer do?
Either you add your own ABC's to it so it becomes your tune book, or you you use File-open to open any other ABC lists you have on your computer.
If you put your tunes in filer they should still be there unless you omitted to save it before closing Navigator (although I think it defaults to a warning about saving before it closes).
Filer is the default file which saves tunes automatically. Create new files with "file/new" and a new tab will appear called abcnew1. You can paste new tunes from the clipboard into this if you've clicked on the tab to open it , or you can hold down the left mouse button on any tune in "filer" (or any other open file that you've created, come to that) and drag that tune to the new tab aforementioned. You'll see the cursor change to a sheet of paper and if you open the new file you'll see the tune you've just dragged sat there. There will still be a copy of the original in "Filer" which you delete if required. All this applies to whatever files you have created. You can move stuff around ad lib. When you've finished you'll be prompted to save (unlike "filer" which is automatic.) You can then call the new file whatever you like. Thereafter you can open it with "file/open" or click on the orange folder icon on the menu bar.
To create sets select the "sets" tab at the bottom, click on the yellow SET icon and give it a name, then drag the tune in line with the new title, underneath the numbers 1, 2 etc
To print tunes out, hit the "Print list" tab at the bottom and drag the tunes you want to print to the window bottom left. When you're done hit the magnifying glass icon and you'll see the dots arrive on the right hand side. The up/down arrow icon will introduce page breaks. You'll need to hit the magnifier each time you make a change to see what effect it's had. Mess around with it and it'll become clear. Use the right hand printer icon to print. You can change the font size etc with the sliders.
To play a tune you usually have to double click on the title for the first play. Thereafter a click on the "play" button will do it.
You probably know already to get a tune in there you simply copy it from the session, or wherever and paste it into whatever file you have open in front of you. If it goes into "filer" and you want it in your new "ITM jigs" file, open the latter and drag it from "filer"
The ABC version has to have the X:1 at the start. If this is missing, which happens now and again from some sites, copy and paste won't work. If you find a tune like this, copy it into Word or whatever and add the X:1, then copy and paste it.
You can get it play a few bars over and over by clicking on "loop" then highlight the bars you want to hear on the numbered string of boxes through which the red square moves when a tune is playing.
I can't think of anything else. Any more problems stick 'em on the site. Good luck. It is a grand programme altogether.
Thanks debroos. I can create a set and name it and put a tune in it, but when I try to add a second tune I can't find the set.
If I click on an open tune to try to drag it to column two, the open set disappears from the bottom half of the screen.
I can open and play tunes, edit them, no bother; but I can't sort them into lists or groups. I realize that if you tick the checked box it only appears in that tab; but what does the 'add' sign do? How do I get a list of tunes to work with? I'm beginning to feel stupid.
This is probably to do with the arrangement of the screens. Try going to "View" and ensuring that neither score panel or ABC panel are checked. You should then see the ABC list on the screen above the score list. Use the tabs along the bottom to navigate between score, sets or print list.
No, I've tried that, deeor. If I open a file the name appears in a dark gray tab at the top. I can drag this to a set; but if I try to add a second file, as soon as I click on it the set name disappears and leaves just the three choices: new set, rename or delete. Also, how can I open a set once I've named one? The only way seems to be to click on the file that I put in it. And how do I make a list of tunes? I know it can be done because I've had lists there; but I don't know how the heck I did it. Agghh!
I know where I've gone wrong: I'm trying to work with tunes that I've already saved. If I load in the tunes from the original text files I can do what deeor and debroos have said. And it IS a splendid bit of software. Thanks all.
Hi I am new to this site (which i'm getting used too and think it is brilliant)
Regarding using ABC Navigator2 soft ware; I use this all the time with TuneDB software and over the last year i have added dozens of Irish tunes to my playlist. I will let you have the instruction which i will write down them post it on this site for you. it might be after the New Year celebrations.
Best Wishes
