Flat Footing in Appalachian Old Time

Flat Footing in Appalachian Old Time

Hello !
I've become fascinated by Flat Footing.
It looks, to me, very much like Sean Nos step dance.
Was it somehow evolved from the Irish Sean Nos ?
I tried to search the internet, but couldn't find any history of it.
Could anyone give me information?
Thanx ~

If you're a youtube member you might even be able to get in touch and ask the question directly.

Re: Flat Footing in Appalachian Old Time

Appalachian flat footing, buck dancing and clogging (like the music) are indeed very strongly derived from Irish and Scots-Irish roots and as far as i can make out, the techniques are very similar. nic is a fekn brilliant dancer, but here's some more with a real Old-Time Legend (not Aly Bain hehheh) -Tommy Jarrell:

Re: Flat Footing in Appalachian Old Time

I am living proof of the connection! I sean-nos dance so poorly, they think I'm flat-footing. Conversely, I flat-foot so poorly, they think I'm sean-nos dancing.
