Possible ITM reference in bad-literature contest

Ever hear of the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest? It's an international competition in which entrants submit bad opening sentences to imaginary novels.
Here's the 2008 winner in the Adventure category:

"Leopold looked up at the arrow piercing the skin of the dirigible with a sort of wondrous dismay -- the wheezy shriek was just the sort of sound he always imagined a baby moose being beaten with a pair of accordions might make."

Ooh! Ooh! I've got one!

It happens to apply to rock music instead, and it appeared in a detective novel, but it went something like:

"The band made the sort of noise you might hear in a sorority house where the girls were trying to break up a dogfight by screaming and banging pots and pans together."

ITM reference

I don't get it. You sure that's not a catfight?

Re: Possible ITM reference in bad-literature contest

To be honest, I am not sure whether it said dog or cat fight.

But I (ahem--unlike some) decided to take the high road. ;>}
