Can anyone tell me where I'd get my hands on a Dvd, Video or Cd Rom showing how to accompany tunes using DADGAD tuning. I know Sarah Mc Quaid's tutor book but it only has a Cd with it.
I looked in Claddagh Records for the 'Mad for Trad' Cd Rom for trad guitar but they had none left. Also, they weren't sure whether the instruction on that Cd Rom was for DADGAD tuned guitars. Maybe somebody could let me know if its for DADGAD and, if so, where can I locate it?
Thanks.
G'day to yer Macc...
There's a mile of stuff on the Net about DADGAD guitar,as you've,no doubt realised..
One site that I found to be really useful is... http://www.xs4all.nl/~hspeek/dadgad/
There's a good chord chart there too...
Happy strumming.....
Hi Macc
Frank Kilkelly produced a book called 'Accompanying Irish Music on the Guitar' It covers various guitar tunings including a section on DADGAD which I found very helpful.
There is a CD available to assist with examples and various tunes recorded both with guitar and without to assist with practice.
Though I don't know Frank at all, I can really recommend it.
Oooooooooh, let's not start a fight here !
I think I started using DADGAD in about 1969, so I'm a little bored with this discussion. If you want some new tunings get one of Martin Simpson's dvds - he's got way beyond just DADGAD.
Thanks a million for the help everyone. Will probably go with John Doyle's tuturial. Am hoping to buy it as a Christmas present for a friend.
And by the way, there's no need for you guitar-players to argue over whether DADGAD or drop D is best. You're all a shower of failed melody-players anyway! As someone put it, a guitar is basically a bodhran with a neck!

That was a joke by the way. Some of my best friends are failed melody-players.

Re: DADGAD Guitar tutorial
some of us are'nt failed melody players, we just like backing, adding to the harmony and rhythm of the music.
