instrument flight insurance from Ireland

Hi all , anyone know of any insurance crowd in Dublin who will insure a guitar on a flight across the globe?
I tried a few travel agencies who only do the combined medical and luggage ( only to a value of 250 quid per item ) which is no good.
Thanks for any help.

You could try Direct Travel Insurance on the net. They might cover it, well up to £3,000 anyway.

These are the people to ask:

You can do the stuff online, and it's really cheap. My harp and case are insured for flight anywhere in the world, and against loss or even theft from an unattended vehicle. £2100 cover costs something like £36 a year, well worth it for the peace of mind. They even give you a free phial of Smartwiter and put you on the Smartwiter database (or rather, your instrument!). You can set it up to run immediately.

Re: instrument flight insurance from Ireland

Sorry!! I was typing while trying to do something else... I should have said "Smartwiter". It's a liquid which fluoresces under UV light and has a unique code in it (not sure exactly how that bit works) so you put a swab of it on each instrument and if it's stolen, the police can identify where it came from by looking up the code on a database. It's supposed to make things very difficult to sell because (at least under UK law) if you buy something that's been stolen, you have no title to it - the original owner can legally take it back without any compensation. So I guess if it makes the original owner more traceable, that makes the thing more difficult to steal if the thief intends to sell it.

There's more here: http://www.smartwiter.com/Personal.aspx

The Allianz insurance comes with a free unique phial of this stuff and they register you on the Smartwiter database. I guess it's pretty good for them to keep losses to a minimum.
