Re: Christmas Presents

How about a "tune it or die" design.

Re: Christmas Presents

Yeah, I've thought about that one... there are numerous ones out there, but I could maybe come up with one that is specific to Irish... :-)

Re: Christmas Presents

Can you do double sided?: I like shirts with the punchline on the back, as in e.g:

F: "All Tradition Irish tunes sound the same to me..."
B: "... absolutely wonderful! "

Just an idea. Does anybody else have front/back suggestions?

Re: Christmas Presents

Bad Ideas:

"Planxty You!"

A nice excerpt of classical, Irish Poetry (not a bad idea if you find the right excerpt. The Irish are known as word smiths.)

A quote from a famous historical figure regarding whistles or flutes. (You'd have to research it.)

Re: Christmas Presents

I wonder if, in the version of English spoken at the time, O'Carolan came up with "Planxty" as a word comprised of many words put together, such as "plenty of thanks to you", substituting "x" for a series of letters that sound the same.

I recall a poem using what sounded like nonsense words in the same vein as a child "Jaberwocky" (by Lewis Carroll). I remember a high school English teacher telling me that the "wabe" was the "way back lawn".

Hey Rick,

For some reason, Cafe Press won't print on the back of some of the shirts, but they will on others. Oh... and it adds $3 to the price, if I remember correctly.

But I love the idea! I'll dig into it a bit...

The "I'm with Modhran" one is a masterpiece.

Re: Christmas Presents

Front: bunch of sessioners welcoming Santa with drink, etc.

Back: more of them, spit-roasting his reindeer unbeknown to him...

Great idea! I added a couple of simple ones, "Trad Widow" and "Abandoned for Trad" to the Sessions section. I'll try to spend some time thinking of other ones too.

Re: Christmas Presents

Put this on a shirt:

McCracken's Session Rules

1. I am McCracken
2. If you play "Wizard's Walk" that is fine, just be sure to provide me with a bucket to puke in.
3. I am half Irish, 1/2 Scottish and 3/4 SOB, that's why it doesn't matter what strings I use.
4. No, I would not be interested in joining your pathetic shamrock sucking band.
5. The only sheet music we use here is in the bathroom.
6. I don't give a flying freak that Lunasa is your favorite band.
7. Please take all looks and cold shoulders as an invitation to the door because your playing is horrid.
8. Welcome!, and have a wonderful time

Re: Christmas Presents

Hey kuec,

CafePress will ship to Europe, but they do require a credit card :-(

Re: Christmas Presents

Gather mortals, hear THE MCCRACKEN! Hey man, did I ever tell you how much I liked Lunasa?

No but seriously folks, I own the 'Keeping it Reel' shirt because I'm a huge dork, and I endorse these here fine products. I have not been paid to give this testimonial, though if I'm not going to get paid I'm just going to stop doing them altogether. Ya got that, Rev? Is this thing on? [tap tap] ;-)

Re: Christmas Presents

Reverend, there's a certain young man who would love to have:

MY MOM PLAYS DIDDLY SH*TE!
(smaller print:)
All the time.
Endlessly.
Anyone have any ear plugs?

Lisa

P.S. Loved wearing my Molloy/Carty '08 shirt. Is it too early to start campaigning for '12?

A full set of concert pitch Uilleann pipes please. I'll pay for postage.

Re: Christmas Presents

I have a t-shirt that is wearing out and would like to replace that has a picture of several instruments (hammered dulcimer, fiddle, 5-string banjo) with a quote underneath by Oliver Wendell Holmes: "We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing." Maybe something with more session-friendly instruments (I prefer mandolin and concertina, but pipes, fiddle, even bodhran).

Re: Christmas Presents

How easy would it be to get some of these designs on a bumper sticker? Is this something simple to do, or does it entail added expense for you? My flute's in a handgun case and I will be taking a plane with it, so I want to decorate the case with something that gives a hint that this is a musical instrument, not a weapon.

# Posted on November 26th 2008 by fuzzygreen

Re: Christmas Presents

hey fliedermaus, putting them on bumper stickers isn't too hard. Which one would you want on a sticker?

Re: Christmas Presents

I like the 5000 tunes, 15000 names one (although if I was a banjo player, I'd get Harp Onna Stick in a heartbeat). I realize the aspect ratio of the 5000 tunes one is not the same as a bumper sticker - sorry if it entails some reformatting! Also (and you don't have to do this), for the sticker at least, it'd be really neat if the little flourish was something recognizably ITM (not a shamrock or Guinness, but maybe a knot or something?).

This is really neat; I've been looking all over for an ITM-themed sticker.
