Geantrai - thanks for the excellent link - now some questions...
A recent discussion mentioned some 'disappointment' with
a Geantrai program from Kerry. Well, I thought it was fantastic and I am grateful for pointing me in the direction of an
excellent on-line resource for learning new songs and music.
I posted a question at the end of the discussion that no one responded to so I'll try again here, with an additional query as well.
For anyone who listened to the program -
What is the name of the 3 part reel that closed the program?
That would be great to know because I'd like learn it and knowing a name for it will help in this quest.
Next, I really liked the
songs on the program. One of them is called
Feach an Mhadra Rua. Does anyone know this song and can post the lyrics and a translation?
Finally, for anyone who would like a quick pointer to the site to have a listen yourself - here it is: http://www.tg4.tv
Click on Ceol-Cartlann on the panel on the left side of your screen. This provides links to the recent Geantrai programs - then click on the top link - this is to the recent program from Kerry that I'm referring to here. Any of the other links to previous Geantrai's are well worth your time as well.
(Unfortunately, I don't think you should bother with any of this without a high-speed internet connection.)
Re: Geantrai - thanks for the excellent link - now some questions...
I agree with "halfwaythere" - i was disappointed to hear so many negative remarks about the programme so i watched it on tgv.tv and i thought it was quite good. i know it might not be strictly traditional but no-one can say that they aren't good musicians! my point is, i enjoyed it
Re: Geantrai - thanks for the excellent link - now some questions...
Thanks for the tip about the link! I only had time to listen as far as the "The Waltz", but I'll listen to more of it later and see if I know the reels you're wondering about.
That waltz, by the way, is known up in in Scandinavia as "Emma, Oh, Emma". The version I know is originally Finnish.
Re: Geantrai - thanks for the excellent link - now some questions...
I listened to a youtube clip that was a link from the tune
comments section. Rip the Calico is the tune name I was looking for. Thank you very much.
Now, does anyone out there have lyrics to any of the songs from the program?
I don't know Irish but I'm interested in learning the basics of it. Having lyrics to songs in Irish (with English translations) could be a good place to start I think.

No, I just want to know the answers to my questions.
I'm hoping that any further responses will provide them.
