Bah! I just got my notice.
Dont suppose anyone would pay me to stay at home and practice the fiddle.........no......anyone??
Ah well, there's always the game... me love you long time
On the discussion side of things do you all reckon this recession will be good for the music.
I have definitely noticed an increase in impromtu kitchen sessions at the weekends. Nice.
Sorry to hear it, ss. This is getting pretty bad, some places worse than others.
The Australian ship hasn't sunk yet, probably won't, but might take a bit of water. (That's actually a good thing here!
Take some time out, catch some rays in an Aussie summer, play some tunes.
Sorry to hear it, a few of my mates have been laid off in last 2 weeks and I work for a company that was all over the enws yesterday about 1000s of job cuts. It isn't lookin good!
Bummer, sorry to hear that Savage. I got hit with a layoff a few months ago. Take the opportunity to find a better job and turn it into a positive situation. And don't forget to enjoy the extra practice time!
Yeah I'm gonna use this opportunity to change the record so to speak.
I think I'm gonna do something new. Lord knows what though
Sorry TD harry but whats smoke shovelling when its at home ?
Hey clear drops, sorry that your in the same boat.. fancy a few brewskies later.
After all drink is the cause of..and solution to all of lifes problems.
Indeed SWFL, and if nothing else it'll give me plenty of ammo to use against the kids.. "ah we didn't have it this easy when we were younger".. "you dont know how lucky you are" etc etc.
The Smoke Shovelling Song (Robin Williamson) is on the first Incredible String Band album along with Clive Palmer's song Empty Pocket Blues, which I quoted from.
The Recessional Hornpipe is presumably one of the currently existing hornpipes played backwards. You could try a dozen or two, and see which one comes out the most weirdly impressive. Or if traditional church music includes such things as Recessionals, you could take one and diddly it up a bit.

come to calgary and work in the oil patch...how hard can it be? live like a king -- or a queen for that matter. aye. Mind you, oil is not for everyone. No siree. You've got to have oil in your blood. But if you do, then Calgary's your man.
At the risk of sounding smug, I don't think I'll be too badly off as a result of this recession.
As I'm retired, I continue to receive an indexed linked pension and I've already paid my mortgage. Many prices will actually come down over the next few months and deflation will be the greater risk. They're also promising tax cuts.
Of course, there are also many negatives. Sterling isn't very good and this will make overseas travel more expensive. Also, i wouldn't want to move house just now.
I do realise that it's not a rosy picture for those with "jobs on the line" or those with mortgages.
I think there probably is a good side. People are thinking more about what's valuable and not so much about aspirational purchases. Hopefully we'll see an end to all those tedious TV programmes about how to sell your house in London and buy three weekend cottages in a village you never live in. Maybe people will even think about music as something you do rather than something you purchase. You never know, it could happen!
I lost my day job to redundancy three years ago - and like most people this happens to, it's a positive experience. It gives you time to think about / do what's important to you, rather than what's important to some faceless organisation.

My pocket's empty, baby,
I'm singing a blue for you,
My pocket's empty,
You know I loved you true,
Even my old kettle
Is whistling a blues for you
(Clive Palmer)
Seems in keeping with the times somehow...

What with the recession and global warming, you could go on a cheap holiday to Iceland and get eaten by salt-water crocodiles.
