North Hero Piping

North Hero Piping

Hey, is anyone in the New York area going to the North Hero piping thing? I am thinking of going but renting a car and driving up there by meself seems boring and likely to make me not go, it would be much better to ride with someone else who was going or pitch in and rent a car or something.

Re: North Hero Piping

I don't live in NY, but I'll be hanging out most of the weekend at the Pipers Gathering. Can't wait!

Yeah, from NYC it's a haul, but it is totally worth it. For anyone else interested, I posted this on the links section.

Re: North Hero Piping

This is one of the best piping events anywhere, and it's particularly cool to see and hear some of the other species of bagpipes in action. I really like the French Bourbonnais-style Cornemuses, what a great sound, especially the Grande Cornemuse. Grande indeed.

Bombardes are great, too, but best appreciated at a distance.

Re: North Hero Piping

Hopefully I will meet you both at North Hero amongst the throngs of squealers. We had an annual piping gathering in Australia that was about loads of different types of pipes and we had 'em all.

One of the more spectacular was the pipes from one of the Slavic countries, the bag was goat with the hair out and drones hanging out each leg and a carved goat head with the chanter coming out its mouth, kinda spooky lookin and quite funny at the same time and wild sounding when it got going.

Also the Macedonian piping is a treat when executed at speed by good players.

The highland pipers are great when they get going and play some of the proper music instead of all that marshal marching stuff. The Scotts dance music is great with harmonising GHB's and I must say that I don't mind a bit of the old Piobreachd either.

There was also always a good contingent of the Union (uilleann) pipes, quite a few good old sets from Geoff Wooff from when he lived in Australia.

So there you go, full on freak for pipes and piping me,

Again, hopefully I will see you there,
cheers,
Giles

Re: North Hero Piping

Me and my guys were talking about this last night after the session. We all are really looking forward to North Hero. I'll be the skinny girl with dark curly hair hanging out with my "home boys" ....and maybe catching a few tunes......and definitely drinking a few brews......
