The Flood Brothers, Loughrea

The Flood Brothers, Loughrea

In the 1970s in Galway Martin Flood and his brother, whose first name escapes me were frequently at the sessions. I believe they were from the Loughrea area. They both played tin whistle, and had a unique way of covering the mouthpiece so that the sound was slightly distorted. I wonder if anyone knows if they are still around and playing. Diarmuid

There's a Dr Flood at Limerick Regional who specialises in Urinary Disorders. I don't know if he has a brother though ...

Thanks.....The other brother was called Pat, I think. They were salt of the earth lads and would be in their 60s, possibly 70s by now. D

Re: The Flood Brothers, Loughrea

Davy, thanks. I had not met either of them for the best part of 30 years but often wondered what became of them. I remember Pat as being more open and easy to chat with, Martin less so. That is no reflection on the man, he was just more reserved. I will always remember their playing style, which I hav'nt seen since. Sad news. D
