Did anyone see this on TG4 last night? For those who don't receive the station, it's a series where well-known personalities elect to learn an instrument over a six-week period, with a professional musician as a teacher.
The first programme last night featured popular radio broadcaster John Creedon. It was very good; of course, John is such a comedian anyway that he could carry the show.
His teacher was Johnny McCarthy, a flute and fiddle player from Cork. It first showed John buying a flute from Hammy Hamilton. He then went around meeting various players including Matt Molloy and Peter Horan. We then saw him take some lessons from Johnny and, at the end, he appeared on stage at a community concert and played his tune.
My only complaint is that they didn't really show anything of the learning curve in between. None of the frustrations (and joys!) of the adult learner were evident. He seemed to suddenly become a player without much effort.
I watched it live on the net last night. A very nice program, but with horrible problems with the sound cutting and and the image getting distorted. TG4 seems to have gotten worse in that respect lately, or is it just me?
If it's not too much trouble, could someone post the Kweeveen/Jeremy Irons thing when it airs next week with a link so those of us here in N.A. could have a look?
thanks.
mtodd- no need for anyone to post it, just keep an eye out on http://www.tg4.tv it'll be archived for free online viewing there, like all the tg4 programmes.

If Jeremy Irons is learning the fiddle on the show then how does that sit with him having attended Willie Clancy week fiddle classes last year???
Was this during the 6 weeks of his learning period? Does anyone know when the show was filmed.

Re: Faoi Lán Cheoil
Cool, I think I recorded the most recent show. Just haven't looked at my DVDs in a few days. Looking forward to hopefully finding it.

Re: Faoi Lán Cheoil
What Bliss does today, others follow. I taught Geoff Hughes (Eddie Yeats, Coronation Street) the bodhran 30 years ago.
Mind you, there was no TG4 then.

Re: Faoi Lán Cheoil
The period of learning is between 6 to 8 months, and part of Jeremy's show features his visit to the Willie week. It was filmed in 2007.
