As many, many people have been abducted and probed by aliens over the decades & centuries (especially in the US it would seem) this must include a lot of Trad Irish music players.
Do you think it is possible that this alien influence is detectable in "the music" as we hear it now?
Could it be the aliens that originally introduced the pipes to the players hundreds of years ago? And that accounts for their fabulous and beautiful ethereal other-worldly sound that they produce.

Pipers in Scotland and Ireland used to be captured by faeries and would come back with either a great set pipes or at least new tunes and impressive ability. In some of these stories the piper died young because the faeries wanted him back.

I was in Southern Ireland several years ago, out in the middle of nowhere at dusk and an old farmer I came across was convinced I was a real, genuine, out of space, alien. Poor guy, I don't think he ever recovered.

Why can't we return the favor and abduct some aliens from another planet, bring them here, and probe them?
All we would need is a good, slightly-used spaceship and directions to the nearest inhabited planet.
It would be perfectly legal because there are no laws against abducting aliens from other planets.
The kidnapping laws on this planet just apply to our fellow human beings and not to creatures from other planets.
I probably thought of this crazy idea because I am "warped" from too many years of watching various episodes of the various incarnations of Star Trek.

"The sessioners found themselves in a room that reminded them strongly of places they had been in back on earth, such a long time back, but was disconcertingly different in all of its details. A small bunch of look-alike Celtic Women were playing fiddles at a table, but they were playing Classical style and it sounded awful. The strains of "Fields Of Athenry" came out of the speakers in some of the corners of this room, but there was no barman to request to turn it off.
It was obvious some intelligent alien had tried to set up a place like home for the sessioners, but hadn't quite got ot right.

If you look at the many times in the past when fiddlers were "invited" inside the houses of the good people and the consequences - doesn't this seem very near to classic alien abduction (humans and they do seem to be distinct species)?
for that matter, why is miss universe? Aren't orion slave girls sexy enough? (and if anybody brings up that abomination of a show enterprise, well, lets just say it'll be very painful for the whistle player. and the piper)
In one of the early episodes of Babylon Five from either the first season or the second season, a human fought an alien in some type of alien version of boxing.
If Orion slave girls are the oddities with three breasts dancing in the low dive sort of place in Star Wars, I think I will leave them for blokes who get drunker than I get.
It happened to me on one very windy night, about nine years ago. Time stood still, while I remained in a frozen state, speechless in my bed. There is no memory of the abduction or probing, but I can still remember the sound of them running up and down the stairs. I wanted to scream like a banshee, but couldn't.
