Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

It's a pity they didn't incorporate a virtual instrument in the game that you had to play a tune on in order to complete a mission. Would be fun and after you've mastered a tune you can then smash the instrument over say the barman's head in the Bar and rob the till. If it's a Piano Accordion you could fire a rocket launcher at it. Rockstar are ya listening?

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

It sounds like an American* tune, jd.

(*I am reluctant to use the term 'old-time', as I am not quite sure where the boundaries of the genre lie and I wouldn't want someone more enlightened jumping down my throat for perpetuating misinformation.)

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

The first tune in the clip above is Golden Keyboard, just like I mentioned in the original thread...

But the tune that I don't recognize is in this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_XNX2VQ-Dg

Scan in about 30 seconds, it starts on fiddle, and then pipes join in...

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

The second tune was composed by Niall Toner, Ireland.

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

Hang on a minute, lads. If the tune being used in this game is "The Golden Keyboard", then that reel was composed by Martin Mulhaire, who's still around, and given the popularity of this game [ about which I know nothing, I admit ], and the number of copies sold, I would think he'd be due a fair bit of money in royalties for the use of his music, no? The same would apply to Niall Toner's composition, if he is indeed the composer of a piece of music being used as alleged above.
I wonder if Messrs Mulhaire and Toner are aware of this. It could be well worth their while checking it out.
Perhaps they are collecting royalties for the use of their music, but it would not be the first time that Irish dance music has unwittingly been used on the assumption that it is "traditional" with no known composer, and without any royalties being paid.

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

"Grand Theft" indeed......

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

Yeah, and we should all pay royalties for playing them in sessions too! :-/

My guess is that Rockstar Games is covered under some blanket license. Could be wrong on that, and it would be worth looking in to... At the very least, it should be considered as flattery to the composers...

Re: Grand Theft Auto tune

More likely ignorance by the guys who made the game.
