Now I know that with everyone giving them up these days, this might go over like bringing a bottle of whiskey to a Baptist Revival, but I decided to take the plunk, and ordered a Rochelle Anglo Concertina from the Button Box yesterday.
I just got an email that it has been shipped!
I told my old Auntie the news and she went down to the Church and lit a candle for me.
Now I know its a dark road I'm headed down, but after all, it was curiosity that killed the cat. I say if you have to blame someone, then blame Paddy OBrien. It was his records I was listening to, you know.
I guess the one bright spot is that with so many people giving the things up these days, it should be a buyer's market when I want to upgrade. I just hope they don't outlaw the things.
I'm well aware that people don't favor the concertina anymore, but remember that things could be worse: You could be living next door while I'm learning to play the silly thing.

Congratulations on becoming another of us lost souls, wasting hours in an attempt to make sweet music out of a concertina. The Rochelle seems fairly forgiving to me and I'm loving every minute of it. Even my 21 month old daughter seems to like it, dancing happily as I stumble through another tune. It's good to have a forgiving audience.

what exactly is "parping"?
mind you, I've never even seen a concertina first hand, much less played one.
I don't think I even know anyone whos actually seen one, either, much less know anyone whos ever tried to play one
I sure hope this doesn't turn out like the time I tried to teach myself how to weld on gasoline tanks. I only just grew my eyebrows back.
