Correction

the 2nd link is wrong. The good one is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUAF9N9yzEc&fmt=18
and refers to the 1st tune.

Re: 2 anon reels

I did some preliminary searching, and I didn't find anything either. But man, that first tune (in ABC) is a cracker! I'm going to have to learn that one!

Re: 2 anon reels

The second tune was recorded by James Morrison as 'The Moving Bogs' and can be found on the compilation CD 'The Wheels Of The World, Early Irish American Music, Vol. 1' http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/314

There are two tunes posted on The Session under this (or a very similar) name, but neither is the same tune. The link from the track listing of the CD mentioned is, of course, to one of those two tunes.

Re: 2 anon reels

I remember trying to find a name for that first tune you posted a while ago, to no avail. It could possibly be a Conor McCarthy composition. He is the accordion player with that ceili band (Star of Munster C.B.) And, there is another video lazyhound has uploaded which features the tune "The Storks have Landed" which is one of Conor's.

Re: 2 anon reels

I'm pretty sure that that 1st tune is a reel of Phil Cunningham's which has "gone it's own way" in Ireland, as Harry Bradley would put it. The 2nd part is quite distinctive. It might be "Andy M.Stewart's" , but I'd have to check.

Re: 2 anon reels

No - not Andy's.

Re: 2 anon reels

I don't hear really well, but from the clip, the first tune sounds like Maids of Castlebar to me.

Re: 2 anon reels

Not the Maids. Haven't found it yet, but I'm thinking "Relativity", not "Silly Wizard". Possibly the album with Manus Lunny and Andy M. Is it "The Soft Horse" , anybody ? If all else fails, I'll ask Phil on Sunday.

Any luck Kenny?

Re: 2 anon reels

The link for the 1st tune is here http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1012. Unfortunately, there is a glitch in the system, and the sheetmusic does not match the abc, and shows a gan ainm tune posted by Zina. I e-mailed Jeremy a while back asking if he might be able to sort this out but maybe he forgot about it. I'm sure he had more important things to do.

Re: 2 anon reels

Hi, Unfortunately I am not the composer of that reel! It is the Maids of Castlebar alright and the second one is the Moving Bogs as correctly identified earlier. I recorded the Moving Bogs with Annemarie McCormack on Ace and Deuce. learnt it from my father Johnny, Aidan McMahon recorded it with Anthony Quigney and graciously mentioned me as a source of the tune. By the way Hand me down the tackle starts the very same and there has always been a mix up between the two especially in session when a change into either is made.
