I for one enjoy sitting in the center-left part of the session. I like to hear tunes from both ends of the table and join in on the ones I can relate to best. However, for several years now the tunes coming from the right side of the table have sounded so disharmonious, so downright confrontational and full of so many sour notes, I am ready to play with the folks on the left for a while. I guess I have to take the slide given the choice.
Actually, Barrack Hill isn’t a slide….it’s a slip jig…..
It sounds a little different every time ya hear it, far too much ornamentation
with little substance to the melody line,
and it’s weird – every time someone plays it - $20 vanishes from my wallet !
I love the tune that gets played with Chein Mc Cain ! A very lovely
air called “O’Palin On The North Slope”

Eliot - I'm a bit surprised. I thought this thread would have blown up considering the current climate after the two conventions. Either your musical metaphor went over everyone's head or nobody here really cares. I enjoyed your chumming of the waters, FWIW.
Certainly if you live in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, etc. where 90% of the people are certain the earth is less than 6000 years old, it can be very depressing to think your choice of tune matters. So you should move to Colorado, where they may play a different tune this time around. I think ITM is proof that the earth is more than 6000 years old -- I am absolutely certain that Morrison's jig dates back at least 6500 years, and for more than 6300 years, has been considered a tune from hell.
Eliot, don't be silly. Even the dinosaurs we unearth from Montana's dirt are only 4,000 years old. And they're not real bones, just artifacts made by the people who paddled over here from Egypt....
Actually, the problem with the tune choice here is that they are too different. We're not accustomed to that. Now if we had to choose between, say, Down the Broom and Sligo Maid, then we could have a real election!
Funny, just six months ago many of the folks who now claim to love the Air were lamenting that it sounded far too much like a slide or worse. Hypocrites.
Which tune do you like more?
Which tune do you like more?
Ur-Chnoc Chein Mc Cain (Uir Chnoic Cein Mhic Cainte (air))
or
Barrack Hill (The Cat Jumped Into The Mouse's Hole And Didn't Come Down Till Morning (slide))

Re: Which tune do you like more?
I was hoping to hear The Woman of the House (Hillary's Reel) But I guess I'll have to wait for that one.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
Go ahead. Play them both.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
I know some countries allow this, but in America we can only play one of the two.

Oh man, I really dislike airs and slides...

Re: Which tune do you like more?
I've never heard either, but reading the dots cold I would choose the air - definitely a lovely tune.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
But whatever happens, we won't be hearing this tune so much soon:

Re: Which tune do you like more?
...and I've just noticed the sign-on name of the person who submitted the tune I just referred you all to. Take a look - it seems somehow appropriate.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
I agree, Mr. Eejit, I thought it might get a lot of play. I think it went over most heads, but the responses that did follow were fun and smart.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
Urgh. We're all feeling disenfranchised. Our choice doesn't matter.

Re: Which tune do you like more?
In Santa Barbara the tune is "Reagan's Lament"
or "Tin Soldiers and Nixon's Coming."
That's what looking out at those islands across
the channel does.
We just go to Colorado for beer. Er; that light
whiz from Golden. Could not replace Guinness.
If Woman of the House could be (Hillary's Reel)
maybe the Palin's could be "Fasten the Wig."
