A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten.
We all looked at each other and another customer asked, "What is a seven-hundred-ten?"
She replied, "You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I have lost it and need a new one.."
She replied that she did not know exactly what it was, but this piece had always been there.
The mechanic gave her a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like.
She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had its hood up and asked "is there a 710 on this car?"
She pointed and said, "Of course, its right there."
The same blonde walks into the bar across the street. She goes up to the bar to order a drink, and the bartender asks her what she would like to drink. She thinks for a second, and then says "I'll have a 15!"
The bartender thinks for a second, but he can't figure it out, so he says "I'm sorry, miss, I don't know what that drink is!"
There's a lot to be said for a 5-string banjo, especially if lightly frailed by someone like Derroll Adams.
There's a little to be said for a banjo ukulele ( and a lot against ).
But frankly, a tenor banjo is raucous. Isn't that why Johnny Moynihan started playing the bouzouki ?
And the banjo-mandolin ( or is that the mandolin-banjo ? ) is not to be countenanced.
not sure I'd agree with the statement that the tenor banjo is raucous - although it's not my preferred way of playing, you could never describe Gerry O'Connor's first album as harsh or strident.
As for not encouraging the mandolin-banjo, or banjolin as it is sometimes referred to, what about Michael Gaffney and the recordings he did with Leitrim flute player John McKenna?
Hey, a banjo question....
Hey, a banjo question....
Only joking! Made you look!
I hate the banjo.

Re: Hey, a banjo question....
when a musician dies and goes to Heaven, St Peter says, "Welcome to Heaven, here's your harp"
when he dies and goes to hell the devil says "Welcome to hell, here's your banjo"

Re: Hey, a banjo question....
How many banjo players does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
One, but it takes four more to complain that it's electric.

Re: Hey, a banjo question....
It takes all sorts - trying to like people who dont like other people because they play the banjo, bodhran, flute, fiddle etc is hard!

What's the difference between a chainsaw and a banjo?
A chainsaw has a dynamic range.
Only joking, I love the banjo; it's the best.

I know it's not an instrument really played that much now, but that doesn't mean it is an instrument without worth, does it?
