Chart for colors of string windings

Chart for colors of string windings

Does anyone know if there is a chart for violin string winding, one that tells you what color the ball/loop end is and what color the peg end is? I tried doing a web search, but no go. Such a thing would be such a useful tool to have.

Thanks.

Its not a standard. Different makers use different colors.

Re: Chart for colors of string windings

I am surprised that in a world comprehensively abandoned by taste, guitar etc. strings have not been marketed in strident colours to enable a player to express who or what he/she really IS - or at any rate, wants to be taken for.

Fluorescent Tricolors, rainbows etc. could quite easily be represented by coloured strings. So could Kate Moss or Amy Winehouse, for that matter.

I await a YouTube reference.

For tie-dyed fiddle string windings or dangerously skinny famous lasses?

I fantasise about playing Kate Moss - stretched out tight between shackles - with a large bow consisting of Amy Winehouse and her hair.

I admit I have just come back from a session, and have drink taken.
