Would anybody be interested in buying this banjo before it goes on ebay? Its marginally under 20" scale length so you wont get any easier stretch. Its in good condition and many people comment on the quality of tone. It is very capable of producing a substantial volume if you require. It is fitted with a flat head tone ring and i have 3 different heads to choose from(clear being the best to my ears). It originated from andy banjo (aka teatotaler i believe) and cost me £875 and has a hard case. Andy called this banjo an OB250ss, the OB meaning Orange Blossom and not open back as it has a resonater fitted. Please email me for pics and price. Cheers.
this was a "custom" model that I used to make before I persuaded Gold Tone to introduce "standard" model higher-grade resonator short-scale tenors
it is fundamentally a standard OB250 banjo rim (normally sold with a 5-string neck) fitted with a nice quality Gold Tone shortscale tenor banjo neck. the neck would have been the type used for the contemporary IT250 model. without looking up the serial number, I couldn't recite the exact specification for that banjo but it would have been all dark-stained maple with a flathead tone ring and one-piece cast flange.
the current equivalent model would be the SS250F which is now a "standard" item. with the rise in the the value of sterling against the dollar, all Gold Tone banjo prices dropped considerably - but will obviously go up again now that the pound has gone down again.
give the actual serial number of this banjo, the exact specification could be looked up from my records. I haven't seen this banjo for some years so I can't comment on the current condition - but there is no inherent reason why it should have deteriorated
