Evening. Just done a bit of searching on here (distracted from practising) and it seems like last year was a good year. I've never actually been to the Fleadh - I only vaguely remember passing through one years ago when I was a child. So what can I expect? Is anyone competing this year?
my lil sis will be be competing in the u12 accordion in the fleadh this year should be good you should go if you play an instrument you can take part in the worlds largest session

I've been to many All Ireland Fleadhs over the years. The Fleadh for me is not about competition and never was. I would class myself as one of the thousands of non competitors who like to go to a fleadh and play a few tunes with whoever happens to come along. also to wander around listening to, and sometimes joining in with the various street sessions. (the non clicky ones) Last year's Fleadh in Tullamore was particularly good for street sessions. The weather was good and the streets were wide. The street sessions the previous year in Letterkenny were few and far between because of the rain and the pubs got jammed, but I still enjoyed it.. Accommodation in Tullamore at this late hour could be a problem, but there are always cancellations or the back of the car. Check out 'Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann Tullamore' on the net. You should get lots of info' on there.
The Fleadh Campsite last year was alright...E30-four days. 10-15minute walk to town cwntre or buses running every 15 minutes for practically 24 hours. Well organised and handy for us who are always the last to sort out accommodation!! Great atmosphere last year after sessions at site.
I must admit, I am competing, but it's not the norm for me. I prefer to enjoy the sessions and soak up the atmosphere, like you said Free Reed. We're staying outside of Tullamore - I thought about the campsite, but if the weather is anything like it is here right now, I think I've made the right choice!
I will be there at the end weekend 23rd and 24th. Happy to have a tune and team up with anyone. I suppose any kind of kazzoo meeting of session.org members would be impractical considering the likely mud/swarming crowds...
Conan and Dave, we should meet up again, tis the traditional thing.
Sorry I missed your gig at Feakle Dave it was just doziness, ended up in a session that was like being at school with no-one wanting to start a set except the 'famous advertised leader guy', I also fell under the power and did not pluck up the required courage.
I digress...
Don't forget the Friday evening "Largest Session" event discussed a few days ago at http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/18728. If the weather holds up (it's a bit mixed at present) it should be a lot of craic and a few of us Yellowboarders have already booked our place at the top left facing the gig-rig. There's a complete list of all the tunes over at http://www.fleadh2008.com/LargestSession and I’ve just noticed today that there are also a few songs (Óró Sé do Bheatha Abhaile, Dawning of the Day and Beidh Aonach Amárach); don’t worry, the words are given on the site or can be picked up from the Fleadh Office in “hard copy” format.
As for standard sessions there was a great young session in the Bridge House last night but the "average age" was a bit low while the energy levels were a bit high so I decided to wait for another night or two before entering the fray! Someone mentioned de Bruins tonight so it might be worth checking out.
