"Complete" position and good tunes on the fiddle...
Hi there!
I'm looking for specially "complete position" tunes on the fiddle, going from downs to highs, but also interesting by the melody. I don't know how to explain that correctly in english, but for an exemple;
Dr Gilbert, The Green fields of Glentown, The Galway Reel, James Stewart's, Farewell to London... are some of them.
I don't care if they are not much known.
I'm interested in those tunes because they are often easier to recall than the "simple" ones, if learned with the "logic" version (which often means the good one). And I have to work my technique too.
So if anybody has some good ideas...

->Yes Will CPT, that's it for the most... But rather in the same part, like some Reavy's compositions for exemple (wild swans at Coole, Maubadawn chapel... or Never was piping so gay!).
But, I known most of them (I have the collected compositions). That's why I would like to find more composers of that kind of tunes.

It's easy for a session to get stuck in a rut when the
dominant player is on holiday in Ireland and the local base of players
is a little thin - yes, my local session. We've got some powerful
players who hardly ever show up

Hey SWFL, you need to get your penny whistler to get over it. A lot of good players still choose to play tunes that go beyond the range of their instruments, they find ways to play the tunes that work with the other players. In a lot of cases, it can be as simple as playing the low parts up an octave, but harmonic variation can work sometimes, and creative breathing or ornamentation can deal with it sometimes too...

I agree with the Rev and airport, SFWL's whistler needs to get a clue. I play lots of tunes on whistle that have low Bs, and other notes that I can't hit, and play many of those tunes on my D harmonica, which also lacks that low B, although it has a lot of other low notes to choose from. And come to think of it, I play tunes with C naturals with that same harmonica, by going elsewhere (usually G), when the other instruments hit the C. Learning how to play along with others despite the limitations of your instrument is an important part of this music.
One should not impose their own limits on the entire group, worse comes to worse, and the errant whistler sits out in protest during those tunes, they also have opportunity to use the facilites, or have a drink, or smoke, or whatever.......

By "running between downs and highs", I was also talking about the effect that it can give to the tune. I was expecting however to see the "Cape Breton Fiddler's Welcome To Shetland", "John Burke's", "the Clare's shout", or things like that... I think it's my bad eloquence with the English language!

Oh and 'Dancing Eyes' and 'McKenna's' -- jigs from Gerry O'Connor's Journeyman . McKenna's doesn't quite get down there but it's certainly
