Sweet, if very quiet, the recording I suspect. I guess I'm forced to agree and confess ~I think it seems to have turned out very nicely indeed... I'm jealous...
Yeah I got it as a kit. The bulk of the carving was done on the body, and the scroll was pretty much finished except for the peg holes. All I really did was thin the body, sand it stick it together.
Then I did a relief carving on the front and back, and brought it out to a luthier Michael Allen to set it up. He reamed the peg holes and set up the sound post and bridge etc.
Thanks Ceolachan. I have a long road to go yet. But i doubt I'll ever be truely happy with my playing
I read a suggestion somewhere that we could try to be happy about our progress at each stage of our musical learning, after all we are doing it for pleasure and most of us will never achieve virtuoso status. This makes good sense to me, I wish somebody had said it to me years ago. Making your own fiddle and learning to play it like you can is an achievement, you can be happy about that, even if you know you still have a way to go.

I while back I looked for help on techniques to decorate a fiddle I was putting together. During the discussion some of you asked what it would sound like, well you can hear for yourselves here http://www.soundlantern.com/UpdatedSoundPage.do?ToId=6089&Path=Theebbetide.mp3
Bear in mind I'm still learning so my playing isnt the best but i think its good enough for you to hear my fiddle.
I am interested in your opinions on the fiddle's sound. I think it turned out pretty ok.

Thanks Ceolachan. Yeah I'm quite surprised with the result. Considering it cost me under €200. Sorry about the quiet recording.

Isn't that tune you are playing,
the mushroom tune?
Sean Ryan's or
Trip to Portobello?
