No problem, where do you live? I'm currently listening to Pumpkinhead from 1977 and want to play some of the songs on the LP, all we need is someone to fill the role of Rick Epping, any volunteers?
* Pumpkinhead (rapper)
* Pumpkinhead (film)
* Punkinhed an album by southern rap artist, Boondox
* The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead, a song by XTC from their album Nonsuch.
I think I know what you mean. I prefer a small kitchen session to a noisy pub session. I sometimes feel sick when a session becomes too large and out of control. But this doesn't happen very often if you really know where to go. I attend a couple of regular sessions, and always enjoy hearing and playing with different people.
None of these, Pumpkinhead were a group formed in about 1973 featuring Thom Moore, Kathy Moore, Rick Epping and Sandy Epping. They released one album in 1975, the one I'm now listening to. I used to go and see them live way back then and over the last few months have become a nostalgia trip. I heard Seamie O'Dowd perform one of their songs live last week, the very wonderful "Cedars of Lebanon"
Ok Strayaway, give me a bit of notice when you are coming and I will learn some Pumpkinhead. I already know your theme tune so we are in business.
Grego, maybe they would get on like er...a house on fire? I'll have to check if I am insured against bodhrans.
Slainte, I don't really know where to go then, and I don't know how to find out. I don't imagine any of the sessions advertised on the site here are for one or two people. I guess it's different in Ireland.
I'll be over in York later in the year, lived there for many years, will def call up your way, only if you want, tho! and only if BB & MG are there !!!!!
Here's the tracklist of the LP
01 - Here Comes A Man
02 - Jigs (Joe O'Dowd's & Maid Of The Spinning Wheel)
03 - Richland Woman Blues
04 - Crackbone Tune
05 - Nora's Dove
06 - Reels (Paddy Fahy's & Down The Strand)
07 - Wild West Show
08 - Wedding Dress
09 - Comfort You
10 - Reels (Corner House & Hand Me Down The Tackling)
11 - Miss You
12 - 'Se Fath Mo Bhuartha & Maid Behind The Bar & Earl's Chair
13 - Are You Ready For The Country
14 - Cedars Of Lebanon
So let me get this straight ... you post a discussion on theSESSION.org saying you don't like sessions. You want to stay at home and invite people round you've only "met" on the internet ......
Myself and BB are thankfully otherwise engaged. (And do blame us if it takes more than 6 months)
But Michael, we're gonna play some Pumpkinhead, hardly an everyday occurrance, is it? You must postpone your work and come play with us, once the CD is recorded you may resume duties. I have managed to throw a 4th chord into one track so it's not beginners stuff and the bit of electric bottleneck in The Maid Behind The Bar just has to be heard to be believed, honest!
Here! Here! Sessions can be a boatload of fun, especially if they are impromptu...A bunch a musicians happen to be in the same place at the same time with their instruments. I feel rather badly that I even feel inclined to add anything to this, but they do sometimes seem to be a breeding ground for bad manners. I much prefer session/house parties where there is as much conversation and food and drink as playing. I guess it relieves me that someone finally voiced something that was bothering me. Thanks!
Sorry, Bernie, but I think we are on opposite sides of the pond.
Look us up if you get over and decide you might like to see Down Jersey...Or, when I get over there again, I'll look for the nearest ruin.
I like sessions in my kitchen because then I don't have to drive. Unfortunately my kitchen is a good long way from your kitchen - on the west coast of USA. Wish they'd drop all this star wars nonsense and get busy working on transporting my atoms
OK, I've 'fessed up to the shaky egg so I may as well go for broke. I play spoons too. And in the right context they can sound OK. I realise this isn't doing too much for my profile on the board but hey, I love a good rhythm track. I'm told my Cajun triangle is pretty OK too.
that's great - I like bones too. I'm planning on inviting a whole sean nos dance class to practice during my kitchen session (just don't tell the other musicians)
Bones are my next challenge (light relief while I learn a melody instrument). My daughter's on her way to Ireland (via NY lucky girl). I've asked her to bring back a set. I'll come and join the dancers in your kitchen. Can we dance on the table?
"Mr Llig and my good self are facilitating middle east peace talks for the next six months"
Mr Bliss, presumably the third member of your group will be that Tony Blair on guitar?
certainly CS - table's yours. Better have your daughter get two sets (the best way to quiet spoons critics is to launch in to some two-handed bones playing). And have her look for Mel Mercier's video on bodhran and bones - I've heard it's great...
llig and bliss - Good luck with your mission, be it real or fantastical. Now - don't worry about the people, just be wary of the KEBABS...Some are primed at random with doses of Nebuchadnezzar's Revenge that will detonate for days, and you can cop one in the cleanest-looking bar or restaurant. I know because I copped one thus, during my (so far) one brief visit to those parts.
The kebabs seem to be closed to diplomacy, but if you sing and play to them nicely it might soothe their savage breasts and, who knows, incline them to a more peaceable relationship with man.
Guys I know this is a very, very late post.. But I got introduced to Pumpkinhead by my parents a while ago, and they're still one of my favourite bands. Just signed up to this site in the hope of getting a reply!
My email is jessicamaudrodgers@gmail if you're ever up for a session!!
I don't even like sessions.
I don't even like sessions.
I haven't even been to a session for about twenty years. I'd rather play with just one or two other people, at home. Anybody fancy coming round?

Bernie, is that wise. I mean, inviting llig and bodhran bliss to your house at the same time?

Re: I don't even like sessions.
I'd love to come over, but I already got a few friends coming over the house tonight. Tuesdays are pizza, beer and tunes-day at my kitchen table.
No, I'm not cooking, are you crazy! We're ordering take-out!

Re: I don't even like sessions.
So where are you in the North-East?
If you wish to preserve your privacy, which would probably be wise, just state the nearest pele tower, castle or monastic ruin.

I'll shorten that: just state the nearest ruin.

Re: I don't even like sessions.
I'd be a bit concerned that a kitchen session would place people rather too close to the cutlery drawer - where be SPOONS.

Re: I don't even like sessions.
spoons aren't so bad - one night a couple of mad fiddlers played my appliances like a drum set - the table and countertops too...

Nicholas,
Nearest well-known/official/picturesque ruin is probably Tynemouth Priory.
I'll have a look at some of your own compositions, we should play them, but I'm not doing any Gilbert and Sullivan.
