My very first beloved classical guitar was purchased in 1965 and has no identifying maker label on or in it. I purchased it at a guitar shop that sold many brands. It is not an expensive one but I'm curious as who the maker might be.
With the help of a light and mirror I found numbers inside that are 41 2 10.
The numbers scrawled on the backs of the three cane toads that late local luthier Lawrence Lalouche swallowed were—I hope you're ready for this—41 2 11. God that's eerily close!
What's the betting there's the basis for a Da Vinci Code-type thriller in this? Sure to be worth a bit more than just playing the guitar
(Just mention me in the credits, won't you? And I'll be happy with a mere 5% of the motion picture and TV rights.)
On the odd chance that the back and sides are of Brazilian rosewood... throughout the 1960s and 70's, Giannini exported unmarked classical guitars to US retailers, who either re-badged them or sold them unmarked just as they came. Before the wood became sanctioned and coveted like it is today, it was very inexpensive to produce student models. That's why Giannini emigrated to Brazil.
I've seen five or six unmarked Giannini suspects that all have a serial number on the heel of the neck, though.
If you can remember who the retailer was, you might be able to uncover what they were carrying back in 1965.
My guess is it's the title of somebody quite far up the ladder of the priesthood of some highly obscure and possibly very dangerous Coptic sect in Eritrea. In fact, I think the attacks on Indiana Jones are orchestrated by Antikhntrs - sinister adepts who are quite able to swing out of forests on lianas with knives in their teeth, even in deserts where there are in fact no trees. I am sure they are numerous, too, in the Ankh part of Terry Pratchett's bizarrely imagined city of Ankh-Morpork.
It would be good to know what Antikhntr really means - but not if the divulger of this is likely to incur sudden death.
Look. All of this wild-eyed speculation may play well in Hollywood, Bollywood, and Winnetka—but out here where the rubber firmly meets the road our gaze is ever fixed toward simple truth:
All guitars purchased in February 1965, were under the sway of "The Liverpool Vortex," the same whirling, howling phenomenon that propelled a mediocre musical group from that city to international stardom.
I refer, of course, to Gerry and the Pacemakers. The Beatles? No, that group used talent and good Irish looks to win fame, remember?
The question should be, "What are seven sixes?"; but if it's made in Britain, the question would probably be, "Can you give a number between twenty and forty?"
And, btw, I think you'll find that the question - to which the ultimate answer was 42 - was "What's nine times six?" I always knew there was something wrong with the universe!
Thanks everyone, I knew I could count on you for all
the (ah hem) correct answers.
Gravelwalks, my guitar is definately not a Giannini. (I only wish) It's not that fine of an instrument. Whatever it's heritage it's served me well for many years. I definately got my $50.00 worth out of it. Hmmm, wonder what it would cost today considerin inflation.
Nicholas, Antikhntr is someone who hunts for antiques.......just like Indiana Jones. Do I hear Twilight Zone music?

Anyone know that these numbers might represent?

Karate,
I knew it! 666 makes sense to me.
I found it easier to play the fiddle than the guitar. Guess that's why.

Mary, what does the guitar look like?

Re: The numbers inside my guitar
Sounds a bit like mine ...
... only the numbers in mine were something like:-
2/6
followed by some indecipherable word that had the letters:
W__lw__t_s
with some letters you can't read any more ...
I wonder what *that* meant?

"Antikhntr"...
It's certainly a moniker to conjure with.

Mine has "666" printed in the wood on the outside. Does this mean anything?
