What do YOU think is the greatest song ever written?
What do YOU think is the greatest song ever written?
This is kind of linked to the earlier thread of the greatest piece of music. I would like to think that this thread is more personal because the question is a very personal thing.
For me, I love traditional music. But I also love other types of music, classical, rock, punk, bluegrass, etc. My taste varies from Dolores Keane (in her prime with De Danann) to Alison Krauss to The Ramones.
But for me the greatest ever song has to be the classic operatic song, sung famously by Pavarotti, 'Nessun Dorma' by Puccini. It is an incredibly emotinonal and powerful song, and it flows perfectly. For me it is the perfect song. Click on the link to see...
Re: What do YOU think is the greatest song ever written?
"A long time ago, me and my brother Kyle here, we was hitch-hiking down a long and lonesome road.
All of a sudden there shined a shining demon in the middle of the road.
AND HE SAID:
'Play the best song in the World, or I'll eat your souls...'
Well, me and Kyle, we looked at each other, and we each said:
'Okay.'
And we played the first thing that came to our heads, and it just so happened to be the best song in the World - it was the Best Song in the World!
Look into my eyes and it's easy to see, 1 and 1 make 2, 2 and 1 make 3 - it was destiny.
Once every hundred thousand years or so, when the sun doth sine and the moon doth glow, and the grass doth grow...
Needless to say, the Beast was stunned. Whip-crack! with his rubber tail, and the Beast was done. He asked us:
'Be you angels?'
And we said 'Nay,
We are but Men! ROCK!'
"This is not the Greatest Song in the World.
No! This is just a tribute.
Couldn't remember the Greatest Song in the World,
No, this is a tribute
To the Greatest Song in the World. All right,
It was the Greatest Song in the World, all right!
It was the best mutha ****in' song, the greatest song in the World!
...And the peculiar thing is his, my friends: the song we sang on that fateful night, it didn't actually sound anything like this song!! No!
This is just a tribute, you gotta believe it, and I wish you were there, just a matter of opinion....."

You can feel bonafide if you ride with the tide
But it's not real"
It's the stuff of growing up, and it's never left me.

"Orgreave Pit" concerning the 1984 miners' strike, written by me.
Failing that a song called "Cyanide Sunshine" written by a friend of mine.
Certainly the best title ever.
