I have an old flute that is pretty unreliable. I have been shopping for a high quality flute for some time, but the process is slow, and waiting lists for Wilkes and Olwell are long. For now, I just need a flute to rent or borrow for a couple months until the All-Ireland, which I will be attending in August. Does anyone have a "spare" flute they would be willing to send, or know someone who does?
Laura, an unkeyed olwell will take less than a year. you wouldn't get it in time for the fleadh, but do you really want to attempt to break into a new flute on such short notice for a performance?
In any case, if you're a serious player then get an olwell as soon as possible. contact me thru this site and i would be happy to make an introduction for you. you can always be ready for next year.
There are some good makers with short(ish) waiting lists: Copley & Boegli, Watson, Lehart...perhaps others, too.
Another possibility would be a used flute; one source is: https://www.irishflutestore.com/newsite/
Hey Brendan. I really have no choice about the short notice. I wasn't originally planning to go to Ireland, and I thought I could take my time. My flute's pretty bad though, and even if I'm not completely adjusted, it will be better than my current.
I have a rubbishy old school flute, that is mine now, cos they threw it out and I took it back out the bin and popped a spring back in. If your looking for something just to make noise I'll happily lend you it for a few months, if you want something classy then I can't help. I'm in Scotland.

The process isn't slow at all if you've got the do-re-mi. Ask around.

If you haven't already, i'd suggest to put your request up on the Chiff and Fipple flute forum:

lots of folks on that list with extra unused flute hardware
