Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

Does anyone know of software that will convert an audio file e.g., CD or MP3 recording, to Staff notation. I am not looking for composer software like Sibelius. Googling produced some of the Karaoke sites which looked promising but I think you can only use commercially available recordings. Has anyone any experience of trying to convert a CD to Staff notation?

Why what are you up to? Dont know of anything off-hand. I tend to use amazing slow downer to learn stuff myself and jot it down in sibelius after, but if you wanted to do a tonne of music it would take forever I suppose.

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

That would be pretty hard to do, from a technical standpoint. I don't think that you're going to find any software that will do that for you.

Why not just look up the tunes here in the tunes database? Then you can just print out the sheet music.

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

That finds the name of the tune, it doesn't turn it into sheet music.

That's pretty impressive, if it works well.

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

In the course of finding the name of the tune, it transcribes it into ABC. Since I have an old version of the Mac system with its old version of Java, I can't run the program to see if you can actually output the ABC transcription. But it does convert an audio file to ABC, which is what you say is "pretty hard to do."

It *is* pretty hard to do. Extremely hard, if you get good results.

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

Wow, just played with the Intelliscore software a bit. It's reasonably good at turning monophonic recordings into midi (like a solo recording of myself playing banjo). Mind you, I have no particular use for this, but it's interesting technology!

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

I tried to convert some basic whistling and some tin whistle recordings once. Using technology that was then a few years old by todays standards, the conversion was fairly terrible. Some of the software required that one record a note for use as a reference by the staff notation generator in an attempt to improve the conversion. (It may be easier with stringed/fretted instruments...)

Here's a page that has links to various software, including what it claims is Intelliscore:

Thanks, just downloaded intelliscore and will let you know how I get on.
Did anybody go the Karaoke route or would you even admit to it if you did?

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

finale print music has the software to convert sound into midi that can then be read as music. You just need a mike. I use it to compose y playign flute into the p.c. It takes a while to clean up the breathing noises from teh music but once you get good at it, its wuite easy to do. Also I'm not very good at flute so i'm not much to go by.

Re: Any software to convert audio to sheet Music?

Intelliscore is very interesting! The free trial demo allows 15 seconds of a tune to be converted. I used it to get the staff notation for recorded tunes in a quiet session; it gave the guts of the tune with what looks (and sounds) like a lot of grace notes. It is fun and impressive but would take ages to clean up in order to just have the basic notes of a tune; it would be easier to listen to the piece and transcribe the notes (with the added bonus of being be good for developing a musical ear). To print off it sheet music needs an accessory which costs 29USD. Not bad for the technology. Full purchase allowing full tracks to be converted cost 129USD for the downloaded version.

Final Print Music looks promising too thanks miog, but I couldn't find a free demo online. Reviews here: http://www.digitalaudioworks.com/DAW-11973741-B000BX441W-eMedia_Print_Music_2006_WinMac.html

Thanks guys for your help.

If anyone else has any experience of converting audio to sheet music I'd love to know an easy (cheats) way to do it.
