Song melodies as cues to learning reels

Song melodies as cues to learning reels

I was learning The Otters' Holt (The Water Dogs Hole) and noticed the melody may have been used by Andy M. Stewart for the song 'Take her in your Arms.' (at least it sounds like it to me). It make for a quick learn as I know the song and I think it's a pretty good reel. I thought it would be a good way to add a few reesl to my list. Green Grow the Rushes, and The Little Beggerman are others that work that way. Does anyone know of good session reels would be quick to learn similar to the above. Not just melodies for songs. I have yet to develop the ability to lilt tunes but I am working on it. Maybe this is the step I need in that direction. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. btw, I do not live in a session rich area!!

I've always thought that the A part to the Malbay Shuffle was stolen by Slade for the melody of "Run Runway"
