I'm desperate to start playing in sessions with other trad musicians, i consider myself to be an intermediate banjo player i have about 30 or so tunes, i play in a local bar once a week with a couple of guitar players, the few times i have hooked up with other trad musicians its been a great experience, i'm desperate to improve, where are all the trad musicians hiding, i know there out there, we have the likes of the kinella's in kinnitty, teresa larkin in roscrea certainly out of my league and many more, anyone out there intrested in hooking up i'd be grateful, i would travel anywhere, another year has passed and i have'nt done anything about it, i'm in birr, co. offaly.
Could also do with a few more musicians of all abilities at the Bedford, England CCE session!
I know it's a bit far for you Andy and sure an' all you'd be welcome but I'm hoping you'll have some success locally.
Hey hey Andy,
I'm also desperate, but Central Oz, is a tad toooooo far.
... but ... I'm doing something about it. Tomorrow I'm heading off to the "local" folk festival. Its only two day's drive each way ... but it's the closest festival this year. Whoopieeeee!
... that was shortlived. I can't go now because of kennel cough! I booked the dogs in with the RSPCA kennel yesterday, really short notice, and amazingly they could fit them in because of a cancellation. Both dogs vaccinated, of course, and I answered yes when they asked, but there's kennel cough going round, so it seems, reading the fine print and on further investigation this morning with those in the know, the dogs needed an additional nassal vaccination three days ago in order to be protected.
At least the intention to find some people to play with was there ... but its just saved me an awful lot of money (with the price of diesel being what it is now-a-days) even though it means missing out on THE festival, the LOCAL festival, the only festival for 1,5000 km in any direction this year.
Now I'll have to wait till next year when it'll be more local, like only 100 or so kilometres away. Boo hoo boo hoo. Anyone on for a few tunes in Alice Springs this weekend hey! Anyone coming into town for The Finke Desert Race? Anyone anyone!
(Sorry Andy for my desperation - you kindda sparked it with your thread! I hope you can do heaps heaps better than I in this department.) Good luck with your quest anyway.

Small but lovely. Happens every Queen's B'day, even years near Darwin, odd years near The Alice. Its at Mary River, which is on the way from Darwin to Kakadu and I wouldda got someone to look in on the dogs and left them in the backyard, but I'd be away for a week just to get there and back, and one of them is expecting puppies on the16th, so I couldn't really do that - just in case something happened to her while there wasn't anyone around.
So it's sooooooooo sad ... but I do hope you get to your festival, Bridie ... and I'm going to try like mad to make it to Turning Waves if I possibly can ... and in the meantime I guess I can be getting ready for the arrival of the puppies (unplanned, poor consolation, but still)
Hi Hup, I worked out that you were one and the same. I like the new name, a great signal for a change of tune.
It would have been okay if one of the dogs hadn't been heavily in pup (unplanned) and there hadn't been a current outbreak of kennel cough. I've never got up to Kakadu, and I would have really loved to, but there'll be a folk festival around here next Queen's B'day ... so just have to accept it. So are you heading to Port Arlington for the Celtic Festival?
