D'Addario Helicore Medium Tension strings

D'Addario Helicore Medium Tension strings

Lately I've been using D'Addario Helicore Med Tension strings. I like the tone, they stay in tune well, and with minimum break-in time. However .... I've had a lot of trouble with the "A" string. Not only does it "skip" at the fourth tone (D), but it also leaves a sort of silver, metallic film on my fingerboard, beneath the string. It seems to level off a bit after it breaks in, but still leaves that film which makes me nuts.

I'm not sure if I should keep using them and just get over it or if I should consider jumping off a bridge.

Also, does anyone recommend the Wondertone Ultra-Sensitive Strings? I see they are reissuing them after many years. Seems like they were good strings, back several years ago.

Re: D'Addario Helicore Medium Tension strings

Hi,
I'm not the voice of experience with ITM, but I tried a lot of the different strings mentioned in previous posts, both expensive and inexpensive, and then found the Wondertones through talking with a sales rep and just love them. The A string lasts a lot longer than the Helicores for me and the sound is just right for my fiddle (lovely A, D and G sound, but rather squawky on the E). Anyway, that's been my experience with them and I'm happy.

Oh, I meant my fiddle is squawky on the E, not the string...

Thanks, swillybay. I think I'll give the Wondertones a try.

Happy playing!
