I went to my first session last night, and am still smiling from ear to ear. It was absolutely fabulous, I had such a blast! I was worried that they might play mostly tunes I don't know, but turns out I know more than I thought. The people there were great, too. The guy next to me was stomping his foot so hard I thought he would break a hole through the floor! I was expecting lots of bodhrans and fiddles, but there was just one fiddler and the bodhraners (or is it bodhranists?) were taking turns, so it was a pleasant surprise.
I'm off to learn more of those G maj reels for next time,
Tim.
Way to go! I know the feeling, now being a veteran of 2 slow sessions. Finally getting to play tunes with others in a session is an eye opening experience.
Know exactly where you're coming from. Sessions are good practicing grounds for confidence building, if like me you initially found it hard playing in public, and you get a lot of knowledge from them. It's a real blast playing music with loads of other people and generally having a great time. Trouble is, every week you hear another brilliant tune, go home and annoy everybody in your house by constantly humming de de dededede de de de dede and then have to go out and buy some more tunebooks in order to learn more tunes for the next week. It's great fun.
Now I know why you guys are so into this
