Guitar (Newry Highwayman)

Guitar (Newry Highwayman)

Howdy
I just started the guitar. I've played lots of instruments, so I'm picking up the fingering and stuff pretty quick, but I'm wondering about strumming styles for jigs and reel.
Also, does anybody know the guitar chords to the Newry Highwayman?
Thanks
Joe

Re: Guitar (Newry Highwayman)

Hi Joe

Great tune and especially when played by Solas. John Doyle (ex-Solas) has to be my favorite accompianist for Irish tunes. Wonderful driving style. He has an instructional video out http://www.homespuntapes.com/prodpg/prodpg.asp?prodID=130 It is certainly worth a look.

I play the Newry Highwayman very straight - basically a 3 chord trick in the Key of C. Dropped D gives it a nice edge. If you like I will Email the lyrics/chords - I don't want to upset any of the regular 'Session' elite so I won't post them here.

This is such a wonderful site - I have learnt so much by reading the threads. How is your accordion playing going - have you given up in favour of the guitar?

Cheers - Bob

Re: Guitar (Newry Highwayman)

Hey Bob:
Thanks for the advice.
Don't worry, I haven't given up playing the accordion or concertina (yet!) but I thought guitar would be fun to.
Anyway, if you could email me the chords, that'd be great. My email is
joebrew@gru.net
Thanks again
Joe
