I caught this programme - but only just. I missed it when it was screened but downloaded it through BBC iplayer. It's interesting and nice to see some familiar and not so familiar faces. How long is it now since the first series?
My question is: does anyone know of a way to keep programmes downloaded with BBC iplayer (a version of Realplayer I think) so that they don't self destruct 7 days after they have been viewed?
Many thanks, appreciate that. I'll try that later but I have to say the BBC downloads are very good quality - better than any other downloaded programmes I've seen and much better than streaming - if you can wait for them to download.
There's an option to "open in real player" in the top left of the screen, open it. When real player opens you'll see a wee red buttton next to play/pause etc pressing this allows you to save to your library. Sometimes this is copyright protected in other cases not. These files are not protected and allow you to save them.
and unzip it, to give you FairUse4M.exe and Mirakagi.exe. You should only need the first one.
Play the file that you downloaded using iplayer in Windows Media player to create licences, then close it.
Run FairUse4M.exe and click on recover keys. Click on Next and then load your video file. Click next and fairUse will strip the DRM and create a copy of your file, usually in /My Documents/My Music - all stripped and the video will not expire.

When you open the program up it shows in a weereal player screen , at the top left of this screen is another realplayer icon open it and the it will play in a larger stand alone real player . At rhe bottom left of this screen are your options to play , pause , record etc.
mactavish - a million thanks for for your tip about Orbit. I´ve been trying like mad to save stuff from TG4 without success. Orbit does it brilliantly.

Re: Transatlantic Sessions on BBC4
RTE has the whole 3rd series on its archives, it opens in Real player and can be saved to your computer

Re: Transatlantic Sessions on BBC4
How can you save it to your computer? I can play it on Real Player fine but I have always assumed that you couldn't save these files.

Re: Transatlantic Sessions on BBC4
Yes, to go back to your origional question it is dead easy to strip the DRM off of iplayer files. Download this file
http://rapidshare.com/files/86867920/FairlyUseful.zip
and unzip it, to give you FairUse4M.exe and Mirakagi.exe. You should only need the first one.

Hope that is some help.
