A Free Lunch

A Free Lunch

Some people say there's no such thing as a free lunch but if you come to Fleadh Nua in Ennis you'll get the next best thing which is a free lunchtime concert. Starting on Monday, 19 May (12.30 to 1.30pm each day) with Clare box player Martin Connolly and the talented Mulhern family the series continues throughout the week until Thursday. Tuesday it's Siobhan Peoples with musicians from the Ennis Gaelcolaiste while on Wednesday concertina player Chris Droney from Bellharbour will be joined by his musical children and grandchildren. The final concert on Thursday has the present All-Ireland champion concertina player, Hugh Healy playing along with Lara and Joseph Brown - they may also be joined by flute player, Garry Shannon but this has yet to be confirmed.

The session workshops have now been confirmed for the Templegate Hotel each day between 4.00 and 5.30pm for the princely fee of 2 Euro per day! Mind you both the Kesh jig and the Geese in the Bog are among the tunes being covered during the week so maybe there possibly is something in that old adage about free lunches after all!

If you haven't yet booked up your accommodation in Ennis for the Fleadh, I've been told that an accommodation office has been set up to handle enquiries - the telephone number is 065 6822627.

Re: A Free Lunch

Can you tell us the venue for the lunchtime concerts? We hope to be arriving Thursday lunchtime just before the last concert and it would help us to get on the starting blocks if we knew where we we were heading!

Re: A Free Lunch

Hi Lynn,
Concerts are in the County Museum above the Fleadh Office. If you come by car you can park in the Temple Gate car park which is only a 2 minute walk from the Museum.
