Last night I went into a local pub, Marceys in Trim, for a pint after football. There is a regular session there on a Friday night which is very good. A gang of young fellas and young wans came in which is unusual enough for this pub. Anyway during a break in the session they asked if they could have a go on the instruments. They proceded to play the best Irish trad I have ever had the pleasure in hearing. They were truely excellent. The whole pub was in awe of their playing. There were lads on banjo, accordian and guitar and a girl on fiddle. Then some of the others launched into some great Irish dancing. It turns out they are part of the Irish Nights show (www.irishnights.ie). They are rehearsing in Trim before going on the road. But anyway they were deadly. I was talking to the guitar player. He was a sound fella, from Kerry, owns a pub. Anyone know him?
I'm sorry, there is no real point to this post. Its just great to see young people playing and dancing so well with so much enthusiasm. And I'm still on a high from the experience .
I had a super night. Though I'm paying the price for it today, the wife isn't too happy with me. I was only having "one" but I ended up leaving the car and didn't get in till after 2am It was well worth it!
The Irish Nights thing might be a bit gimmicky, I think its marketed at foreigners. They are off to Holland next week.
Hi There,
My name is Alan Whelan and I am one of the producers of the show. You are correct, we were in rehearsals in trim before heading out on a 9 week tour of Holland. Ths is the shows first tour and hopefully will lead on to many more. We are blessed with a brilliant bunch of musicians and dancers.
Glad you enjoyed the night.
All the best,
Irish Nights
