Dixon 3 piece flute and either Seery or M&E R&R

Dixon 3 piece flute and either Seery or M&E R&R

This is an open question to anyone who has played a Dixon 3 piece polymer flute and also played either a Seery or an M&E R&R.

I had been planning on moving up from the Dixon to either a Seery or an M&E R&R. However, I sent an email to the Seery web page, and the reply I receive stated that they were not sure another polymer flute was a step up and that perhaps I should be looking for a nice wood flute at this time.

Personally, I like the zero maitenance of polymer, and it does very well when camping, etc...

Anyone play a Dixon as well as either the Seery or the M&E R&R care to comment on whether they feel moving to one of those flutes from a Dixon was worth it?

Thanks,

Eric

We covered this subject before. Have a look at http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display.php/1451

Toni - thanks for the links, but I've read those already before I posted.

What I'm hoping for is someone who went from a Dixon to either an M&E R&R or a Seery to see if they feel the move "upward" in the polymer realm was worth the extra $$.

Otherwise, I'm thinking of a couple of used keyed flutes I have leads on or even, perhaps, a rosewood Ralph Sweet, Mopane Casey Burns or Ironwood Mark Hoza (all three wooden flutes without slides to save money). Comments on these three flutes appreciated, too.

Re: Dixon 3 piece flute and either Seery or M&E R&R

I've decided to order a Seery. Since it has a 21 day return period, I'll evaluate the Seery and Dixon and post comments here. I really do like my Dixon, but I think I've grown to love that dry sound of many pratten flutes whereas the Dixon is more of a Rudallesque sounding flute (great cross-fingerings for classical, though).
