Unique instrument for sale - Lefty 4-string octave mando/tenor guitar
Last year I had a luthier build me a 4-string instrument in the shape of an octave mandolin, that I could tune GDAE and play like a tenor banjo but get more of a guitar type sound out of. I play tenor banjo so I wanted something with single course strings that would feel and play the same but have a different sound. It was made by Brent Denney of Olde Woods Lutherie in Newfoundland. I had him set it up as lefty, with a 20" scale, nut width of 1.25 inches. The body is about 3 inches deep and about 13.5 inches at the widest part. It has a 3 piece neck with flame birch on the sides and maple in the middle, the fretboard is rosewood with 5mm abalone dots. Herring bone rosette design around the soundhole. Gotoh tuners. Comes with a fitted hardshell TKL case. It’s surprisingly loud, responsive and resonant and the 4-strings give it a sparser more guitar like sound than an octave mandolin. It's a great instrument for the mandolin player looking for a guitar sound, or the tenor banjo player who wants and octave mando but doesn't like the double course strings. My focus has turned to tenor banjo more recently so I am willing to part with this instrument in order to offset the cost of a recent tenor banjo purchase. Counting the case I have over $900 in this instrument, but am willing to let it go for $500 plus shipping. Please email me at lannyfields@hotmail.com to find out more or see pictures.
