Please, please,
But it doesn't take more than 10 minutes max to write a little potted profile of yourself, your instrument, and so on, even if you're the most rudimentary learner being really bashfull (we've all been there) or the most accomplished professional (no need to name yourself by name).
Some of the healthy organic heated debates here can run along at their own speed, till suddenly confronted by a post from a person who leaves no description of themself. A full blown discusion will not be distracted, eg, whether farting is acceptable etiquette, and gallop on at full momentum, but sometimes it helps to know who's on the other end of the thread!!

Re: Description

Oooo, Will (knock, knock, hello, hello, Will, are you out there still?), did you ever write a description for me? Now I have to go look and see if you ever did. For those of you who don't know, Will is EXCEPTIONALLY good at, in his copious spare time, writing "biographies" for singles ads (based largely on whinging in e-mails and at The Session) that just make you feel happy (mainly because you're falling down howling laughing) to read about yourself....

Here's the one he did of Glauber (sorry, Glauber! *grin*):

"Glauber: debonair young lion in his prime, 6' 2" masculine, lithe physique with large hands and liquid golden brown eyes. Dark, sonorous, full-throated
flute tone matched only by his singing voice. Innovative sense of Irish ornamentation and timing, always crisp and with great pop and lift within his highly selective repertoire. Favors black lambskin pants, pale yellow cashmere v-neck sweaters, and white silk tees."

There was more later about Glauber's legs, but let's not get into *that*. *grin* Will, you never did ME!? I just went through my archive, and there's not one there. However did that happen? Do mine now, do mine! I need a good one for my profile, mine's ever so lame. hehehe

Re: Description

LOL -- Danny, spell it out, dearest, whatever is it that you're trying to say? *snort*

Okay, so there were margaritas at dinner, but d'you know, I went all the way through the 60's and 70's to the present with nary a drug other than alcohol, and that only rarely. Some might think that's because I'm straighter than straight and a little Miss Goody Two Shoes, but in real life that's because I have enough problems with seeing reality in Real Life already. Heh.

Re: Description

Have you read "Wee Free Men" yet, Danny or anyone else from the Isles Formerly Known as British? My husband says he thinks it's a Scottish dialect that the little blue men speak, but I think it's a cross between Midcountry, Scottish and something else really weird and Pratchetian... So who's right?! Me or him?

Re: Description

Sorry to go back on topic :), but I'm thinking I should ask Zina to write a description for me, she seems to know me best on here, physco teen fiddle beginner maybe???

If that would make you happy Danny, a description will be written about me shortly, just have to figure what anyone would want to read about a teenager :? :)

Re: Description

Oh geez, I'm not nearly as good as Will at that kind of thing...I think "perky", "cute" and "adorable" would have to feature in there someplace, though. :)

Re: Description

Oh Danny Boy..... would I love to write your alternative description. Would of course be one from the vaults and probably not acceptable on this site. I just had your early life flash before my eyes, Jeeezus......!!!!

ps. Do you know any whistlers up here? Our band needs one from August..

Re: Description

Shtum, Craig, Shtum.

Try Andy Nicholls, flute player and maker, based in Shawlands. He goes to the Victoria bar for sessions
I'll try and dig out his phone no. and email it to you.
Alternatively put an ad up on this as a discussion - remember I did it for thr St. Patrick's day parade earlier this year?
Good luck!!

Danny.

Zina: "I think "perky", "cute" and "adorable" would have to feature in there someplace, though. :)"

And what about what I said only just the other day? "nice, pleasant, sympathetic, open-minded, sensitive, and easygoing".

Oh, and don't forget "married". [evil grin]

Re: Description

Don't forget "old", Michael. *grin* I don't want to be perky, cute or adorable at my age. And marital status. *snort* Too much trouble. I'll settle for "sturdy, alive, and kicking"!

Re: Description

Well, I could rig up some kind of "upload an image" feature to the member profiles.

It's not quite as simple as that, though. I'd need to have some way of automatically resizing images if they are too large. It's do-able, but it would take a bit of work and I'm kind of busy right now.

Should I put this on my "to do" list on the back-burner (if I may horribly mix my metaphors)? If I did get around to doing it, would people be willing to upload an image of themselves? I don't want to spend a lot of time working on it if only a few people make use of it.

Re: Description

I have a few links to pictures in my profile, from where you can verify that Will's description is spot on!

Re: Description

There are a few of us here who have already created websites/webpages - I have done an AOL webpage for my session - it's not too difficult, in fact it's quite fun. I had to alter it recently so's not to offend a certain Chinese-American lady. No prizes for guessing who.
Also, my eleven year old girl has created two websites! I kid you not. That's not to say it's that easy, as she's a smart kid, but just goes to show it's getting easier and easier to do so - also she's got photos on it.

Re: Description

I think it would be great to put faces to the descriptions, sure I'd scan in a picture in two minutes.

Re: Description

I've enough pics of me floating around the Internet (DON'T say it, Glauber or Will!), I don't really need another. But I'm sure Danny will shame me into posting one if you put that up as a tool, Jeremy. :)

Re: Description

THERE, Danny. The definitive Me, up for your perusal, thanks to Will. (I thought about toning it down a bit, but just couldn't bring myself to touch his purple and throbbing - pause pause pause - prose. *snort*) For those of you new to the Session and/or who haven't been paying attention, most of it's a lie. LOL

Re: Description

Jeremy,

I'll post a photo if you do it. I want to remove any misconceptions that any one might have about me being handsome. In fact I have a very recent picture that I hate. That one should do the job. :)

Zina,

Are you sure I didn't see a little featurette on you while I was "surfing"? ;)
